As a valve technician I was responsible for being on site on oil refineries during shut downs. During shut downs I pulled valves out of line, broke them down and repacked them. If the valves had deteriorated beyond repair on site I would transport them to the shop. Once the valves were at the shop I was able to assess the condition. Valves usually required unpacking of seals, sandblasting and painting and repacking.
These valves consisted of check valves, gate valves, glove valves.
Being a Valve tech was not limited to oil refineries, it also consisted processing plants wether it was for hunts ketchup or oscar meyer.
Daily Health and Safety duties consisted of making sure my crew had the proper PPE for the job and site. Potential slips and falls in gasoline or oil was always a top priority to prevent. Knowledge of hazardous materials was mandatory.
MSHA CERTIFIED
The mining industry owns my heart. While working at Tintic Standard I learned the extreme importance of performing tasks by the book. Miners bring a lot to the table and our country and they deserve the best oppurtunity to perform their job in a safe and healthy enviornment. I learned that often times Mine bosses overlook the wellbeing of their miners and the risk they take everyday. Health and Safety of miners has become my main goal in my career. As a gold miner/Lab tech I had the oppertunity to learn what is safe and what needs corrected. My personal experience with mining was harmful to my health and I don't believe anyone trying to work should be subjected to that type of enviornment. I believe miners should be able to sit down with anyone with MSHA or safety on site and express their health and safety concerns. I promise this is something I will do.
