Independent Study: Illustration of the Romanian Fundamental Myths - Ewe Lamb (the cosmogonic myth), The Flyer (the erotic myth), The Builder Manole (the sacrifice myth), and Trajan and Dochia (the ethnogenesis myth). Being of Romanian origin triggered my curiosity about the four Romanian myths which were fundamental to the Romanian culture. These myths have never been all illustrated by the same artist, so I wanted to take on the challenge of representing them in my own way and make this my next step milestone as an Art senior student.
Publication: Poems Book - Primavara Tanara by Alice Stoicescu, Illustrations by Alex Cea. Role: cover design and inside illustrations. The poem book was written in Romanian during and shortly after the 1989 revolution and is about a teenage girl’s imaginary experience of falling in love with a mythical creature. The book content has connections with two of the four fundamental Romanian myths: the Flyer and the Ewe Lamb.

The Romanian culture and folklore is very rich in fantastic demon creatures. The four myths are: Trajan and Dochia, The Ewe Lamb, The Flyer, and The Master Builder Manole. These folkloric myths are linked to Romanian culture and the sacred. The Ewe Lamb is known as the cosmogonic myth, Trajan and Dochia is the myth of ethnogenesis, the myth of the Master Builder is the myth of the sacrifice, and the Flyer is the erotic myth.
