For the past eight years of my adult life I have been a member of the United States Army Reserve, as a Human Resource Specialist. This job gave me experience in administration and office duties, along with developing me as a American soldier. I learned skills and experiences that will follow me throughout my entire life in many job fields. Over the past couple of months I have been working for Metro Louisville Heath Department as a, adviser to breastfeeding moms. Metro Louisville has a 2020 healthier city initiative and my job position was created under that objective. This position allows me to have a very flexible schedule and allows me to be a independent worker.
Maintained and updated records. Searched employee files upon request. Served as a liaison between management and employees. Explained company personnel policies. Oversaw company newsletter. Prepared security-related identification. Maintained positive employee relations. Managed company wide calendars. Made travel arrangements. Maintained supplies and inventories. Dealt with sensitive and confidential issues. Since being in the military I have developed great leadership abilities. Gather personnel records from other departments or employees. Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions. Answer questions regarding examinations, eligibility, salaries, benefits, and other pertinent information. Knowledge sets include: Administrative Support, Calendar and scheduling software. Transported materials between loading, processing, and storage areas. Set up and loaded trailers. Moved and stored materials. pallets, skids and lifting devices. Stored loads in the right areas. Reported equipment problems. Recorded product inventory. Followed standard operating procedures.
In this job position I provide knowledge and guidance about breastfeeding to new and expecting moms. In this position I work primarily on my own, contacting moms via phone or home visit. I also work with other breastfeeding advisers across the county we share ideas on how to spread the benefits of breastfeeding. I make my own schedule and it is my responsibility to follow it and record it. This job also requires me to conduct classes at a local community place.

I have served in the military for 8 years. It was my first real job as a adult, the military has always been their for me and my family. I have learned many things from being in the military, it has taught me the importance of selflessness and the value in respect of other. I believe all the army value can be translated in any civilian job and with those values in mind a solider will be a great assist to any working team.
