Awarded a Navy and Marine Corps achievement Medal with "V" (valor) distinguishing device for Heroic achievement above and beyond the performance of duties during ground combat operations in the village of Balozai, Sangin District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan on 6 June 2011.
Responsible for leading/navigating the team on long range reconnaissance patrols taking the safest and quickest routes.
To ensure the team had communications with higher command at all times. Responsible for calling in POSREPS (position report) every 30 minutes to the ROC (recon operations center). Responsible for calling in CASEVACS and air strikes.
Second in charge of the team. Made up watch and sleep schedules for team while on patrol. Responsible for all the teams gear. In charge of disciplining team members as team leader saw fit. Responsible for the administrative and logistical needs for the team.
Was assigned to carry the 249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon). Responsible for laying down cover fire to facilitate the movement of my team. Responsible to ensure the weapon was properly cleaned, maintained and available for immediate deployment.
