Currently E&I supervisor for a successful paper company. I have five electricians and 5 instrumentation tradesmen under my supervision. My responsibilities include the overseeing of instrumentation and electrical controls for 2 paper machines, boiler house, wrapping line, and beater room. I am also responsible for all motor repairs and spare motor inventory for the entire mill.
My everyday duties start with a morning safety talk making sure that they begin there day focused on safety. The work orders are then pass out. My self and my Mechanical counterpart then meet with production to discuss any issues they may be having. I then start my rounds. I do this four time a day to see how my tradesmen are doing on there assigned jobs. During these rounds I talk with them about the progress and document any delays they may have had. At the end of the week an action plan is written up which focus on the item which caused us the greatest delay. I also get involved with my tradesmen on any troubleshooting which they be having difficulty with. I am a hands on supervisor with a great working relationship with my tradesmen. I also work closely with production to make sure that there system are working properly. At the end of my day I pay the tradesmen.
Like I mentioned above my other duties involve Motor repair inhouse and outside repairs. I use two motor shops and have reduced motor repair costs by having them bid against each other. I also manage the motor inventory for the mill to make sure that we have spare motors for the critical applications throughout the mill. All motor repair goes through me. As you can see I am devoted to my job and not scared to multi task.
