I am Guadalupe J. Garcia who was raised in El Mirage, Az and attended Dysart High School. After I returned from his US Army commitment. I was hired by the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office, as a Detention Officer and continued to become a Deputy Sheriff. I decided to join the Surprise Police Department in 2001. As a Surprise Police Officer I have had the opportunity to be part of Patrol,Traffic Unit, Special Assignment Unit, and Crisis Negations Team. I am currently assigned as a Property Crimes Detective, focusing on Auto Theft Investigations.
I have been a police officer for 19 uninterrupted years with the Surprise Police Department. I have met standards set by my sergeants during my past years serving as a police detective. During my time as a police officer I have obtained several certifications and had gathered experience in investigating a variety of crimes. I have had experience in taking initial investigations such as burglaries, thefts, frauds, robberies, weapons offenses, drug offenses and following through with the cases and making arrests in each of those cases. During the past years, I have been member of the Surprise Police Department's Traffic Unit, and Special Assignments Unit. During the course of my patrol duties along with my Special Assignment Duties, I have had the opportunity in being involved with several high risk situations and learning how to manage high stress incidents. During the time that I was an operator with the Special Assignments Unit I have been involved with barricaded subjects, high risk search warrants and dignitary protection to identify some of the incidents.
During my tenure I have conducted and investigated several vehicular crime cases where I was the assigned case agent. I have also assisted the Neighborhood Response Unit, Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Surprise Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division by apprehending outstanding suspects, conducting surveillance operations and special operations. I have shown that I can identify crime trends, locate outstanding suspects and develop rapport with various citizens for gathering intelligence by creating beat team projects that addresses concerns in our city. I recently was given the opportunity to conduct an investigation involving large amounts of drugs, because the investigation involved Spanish speakers. I was able to complete a good investigation, which lead to the gathering of intelligence to assist with on going investigations, which also led to the arrest and convictions.
As a member of the Surprise Police Department, I have also on occasion, acted as patrol supervisor in the absence of a sergeant having the opportunity to make myself available to train and mentor junior officers. I have demonstrates my ability to work unsupervised on various task while maintaining my primary duty as a patrol officer. I have demonstrated that I can work well in a team environment while on patrol and being tasked with various projects as member of the Surprise Police Detective.
