For 8 years, I have worked at a bowling alley, mastering every job position: desk attendant; cook; bartender; and lane server. I have learned a lot and thrived in my customer service skills due to the nature of my job. I have also gained an abundance of knowledge in how a bowling alley/business should be run.
I started my job at the bowling alley in the lowest position, that of Lane Attendant. I then slowly moved up and learned every job. As a result of my being able to master each position at my current and past centers, I have been offered a managerial position.
In 2009, I got the job title of Star Trainer, which meant that whenever somebody new was hired, I got the privilege of taking them under my wing, and teaching them their job so they could be as successful as possible at their position.
I know every aspect of the bowling alley, as I check customers in and give them a lane. This part of the job also includes dealing with money. I cook and know how to run a kitchen. I understand what it takes to keep food fresh and keep a kitchen clean and up to par. Another one of my jobs was bartender, as I learned how to make many popular drinks and also the aspects of running a bar and knowing how much product is needed on a weekly basis. My other position was as lane server/waiter. This included checking on customers, taking their food or drink orders and bringing it to them in a timely manner. This was one of the most important jobs in the center because it was the lane server's job to make sure the customer was having a good time, and if not I would always try my best to do something about it and improve their bowling experience.
I worked here while going to Buffalo State College. Having worked at a bowling alley for many years, transitioning to this center was very easy for me. The managerial staff immediately recognized my skill level as I quickly became one of their top employees. In this center, I also lane served and was bartender. They do not normally promote many people to bartender that quickly; an employee has to earn it. But I soon got that promotion by proving my hard work ethic as a lane server.
Additionally, I have taken many education courses.
