  • Provided oversight of multiple divisions - Led and managed four separate division managers, specifically, Building Safety, Neighborhood Services, Planning, and the Housing Authority staff in a rapidly changing and growing community.
  • Successfully partnered with other departments, the community, and elected officials to complete the first City-wide Comprehensive Plan in over 20 years.  
  • Worked closely with the Chief Building Official in the management of short-term issues, such as the successful handling of a safety threat with the Building Safety Division involving the incorrect installation of a number of water softening systems throughout the community.
  • Creation of Oil and Gas Regulations - Spearheaded an effort to respond to a local crisis that quickly emerged surrounding the issues of local oil and gas exploration within Commerce City.  Previously, the project had languished, and City Council was very dissatisfied with the progress due to public outcry and pressure.
  • Worked directly with a variety of other city departments to implement an innovative policy and licensing approach to allow recreational marijuana businesses.  
  • Facilitated the redevelopment as Project Manager of the URA-owned 65-acre former Mile High Greyhound Park project. Included the successful negotiation of a Master-Development Agreement with a private developer, the rezoning of the property, working with the Boys and Girls Club for the placement, planning, and construction of a new B&G club.

  • Leadership Role for Strategic Development Efforts - Oversaw the planning efforts for major city development projects, including the Prairie Gateway project, a 917-acre mixed-use project that was part of a larger former Superfund site, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. 
  • Spearheaded the rewrite of the City's Zoning Ordinance into the new Land Development Code (LDC).  The revised LDC encompasses allowable land uses, zone districts, bulk standards, and subdivision standards, and was adopted in 2009.  
  • Led a city-wide effort in the creation of the City's first Comprehensive Plan since 1992.  This new Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted by City Council in 2010, was a community-wide, multi-department effort that was completed ahead of schedule and on budget.
  • Trained, coached and mentored staff the Planning Division staff, increasing efficiencies through a re-organization of the division,  and oversaw the creation of new customer-oriented procedures for the entire division.
