Applied for supervision then my walkthrough I decided I wanted the Dock to Driver program they offered so in the meantime worked on the dock as Holland put me through school at Vincennes University in Plainfield for my CDL. Wanted to be knowledgeable of both sides of the LTL experience to be helpful as much as I can. The City P&D was a fun experience with all my endorsements on a Class A CDL.
Operations Platform Supervisor- Controlling my zone assigned usually the same but I could run every zone on the platform sometimes more than one zone on the same shift. Assisted with making sure safety was always followed everyday and dockworkers were hitting goals that were required. Always kept an organized zone to the best of my ability will all the tools, straps, dunnage, or ladders in designated area for a clean easy on the eye dock. At the end of every shift did a thorough walk through of zone(s) so the supervisor had a detailed good start of his shift. Became very good with both systems we used to run our dock always eager to learn as much as a I could and was never afraid to jump in and help anyone to get the job done.
Service Supervisor- Keeping track of all the freight coming and through the (Cluster- Busiest part of all the shifts) organizing it all by cut times, levels of freight highest to lowest, and location of freight. Put all in a organized spreadsheet to help platform supervisors any assist I could do with emails sent to all plus management.
Dock worker while on the dock I was a Loader for the Supervisor chasing freight for departure times to make service. As well as a trainer for new employees momentarily until i was needed to assist my supervisor in his area.
Forklift Certified, Crossdock, Lead Dock/ Loader, loading trailers quickly and timely. Strategically loading trailers using all tools possible for the highest revenue in each load with least amount of damages. Part-time job while working others.
First job while in school started as a cook in the back to clean up dishes and kitchen at night. Worked my way to advance up front at stocking buffet, taking orders at register, dealing with customers as well as drive through. After high school I continued as the lead opening cook while working part-time at other jobs.
Ben Davis offered College courses in their Area 31 Career Center. While i attended Decatur Central High school the Juniors and Seniors could apply and few were accepted going off attendance and grades. It was halfday at Decatur for academics then half at Area 31 Career Center.
