I began my law enforcement career in 1980 as a Cadet for the Brea Police Department while attending Cal State Fullerton. After I graduated I was hired by the California Highway Patrol assigned to Cadet Training Class
5-83. After training I was assigned to the Santa Ana Area Office where I worked road patrol, watch officer, and commercial vehicle enforcement. In 1995 I was selected for an administrative transfer to Northern Division to open the Cottonwood Inspection Facility. In 2002 I transfered back to road patrol at the Redding Area Office and worked on the Child Abduction Response Team as well as being assigned to the Bicycle Patrol Unit. I retired from the CHP in 2012 and am now a volunteer with the Shasta County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Ground Team.
While assigned to the Santa Ana Area I was selected for several new programs including the Specially Marked Patrol Vehicle program and the Vehicle Pollution Enforcement Program. Both of these programs were considered high visibility to the Department and required direct interaction with the news media and legislative staff members.
While working at the Cottonwood Inspection Facility I was nominated for a Governor's Safety Award for my proposal to have a Automatic External Defibrillator assigned to the command due to the extended response time for emergency medical assistance.
When the CHP took over the law enforcement responsibilities previously handled by the State Police it created a Department that now handled all general law enforcement for state facilities.
This included the State Agriculture District Fair Grounds. I proposed that a bicycle unit be formed to work these facilities. The Department approved my proposal and the Redding Area now has a bicycle unit that assists throughout Northern Division.
