Research Experience Genetics of In Vivo and In Vitro Endothelial Function in African Americans.
PI: Michael Brown.
8/25/2007-5/31/2013.] NIH Funded $3,305,550.
Role: Doctoral candidate.
Introduced the concepts of masked hypertension and blood pressure variability to the team; spearheaded and coordinated the vascular study project with the Cardiology team at Temple University.
Data obtained were presented at numerous national and international scientific meetings.
Developed immunoassays for important inflammatory markers which led to vital data accumulation on subclinical inflammation in the minority population.
Several journal publications from the data.
First to demonstrate (Veerabhadrappa et al.
JASH 2010; AJH 2011) that high levels of inflammation were associated with lower cardio-respiratory fitness, blood pressure variability, masked hypertension in the minority population.
Role: PI Compliance increased >90% among SU workforce.
Data were presented by the research student at many conferences.
