  • Maintain the operations of the District and personnel issues in the absence of the JDM. I set work schedules, develop work plans, balance case loads, coach, reinforce and evaluate employee's job performance, discuss performance issues by developing a plan to bring the employee into compliance with policy that includes disciplinary action or written warnings. I carry out disciplinary action beyond the written warning level as approved. I plan, prioritize, and execute work assignments. I recommend and implement staffing patterns to maintain workload balance to include developing operational plans for vacancies and staff shortages. I evaluate training needs and schedule training for the entire district to include recertification. My duties include evaluation and interview applicants. I report those findings to the Division Administration for approval to hire and to begin the process of hiring by conducting reference checks, criminal records through CJLEADS and verifying information received.
  • I conduct audits on high profile cases that include serious crime and prepare those finding to upper management to the Secretary of Corrections. I conduct audits as instructed or recommended by the Director. I read and comprehend policy, conduct internal investigation for personal conduct and job performance issues. I prepare those official records after interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, officials, offenders and confidential informers. I exercise independent judgment in submitting recommendation or report to the appropriate authority.
  • I cover the Chief Probation Officer's role in their absence. I run the operations of that unit, staff cases, conduct case reviews, supervise Probation Officers, determine appropriate supervision level for offenders and respond to the needs of offenders through counseling, referral and follow up to appropriate community agencies and other resources. I assist the Probation Officer with the appropriate treatment recommendation.
  • I serve on the local Re-entry Council that provides assistance for offenders with the community resources to assist offenders with success while on probation and reclaiming their lives.
  • I developed a Transitional Housing Team Meeting that meets on a monthly basis. This meeting includes Probation Officers who supervise offenders at the Transitional Houses in the District and the owners/treatment team for those houses. We come together to ensure offenders are held accountable, but to assist with the transition in the community by providing treatment, medication if needed, job training and job interview skills that assist them in getting a job. This team work with employers and temporary agencies who hire offenders who are often over locked due to their convictions and felonies.
  • I am very familiar with post release hearings, release plans and ensuring offenders home plans are investigated. Homeless offenders in prison are placed at the transition home when they are released if the Probation Officers cannot locate a home with family or friends. This includes sex offenders.
  • I train new Probation Officers by assigning new cases when they graduate from training, going over those cases individually with the officers and to assist the Chief on how to have a positive working relationship with the new officer that does not include discipline but guidance.
  • I assist Law Enforcement with the selection of staff and planning for searches by working with local law enforcement, the Sheriff Department, Police Department, US Marshal Services, SBI, Highway Patrol, ATF, ALE and other agencies.

  • Duties include supervising 10-12 Probation Officers with a total of 700 cases in the unit. Run the operations of the unit that included training new officers prior and after Basic Training, discussed policy and ensure compliance and understanding. Trained staff on court procedures, interstate compact, parole supervision, supervision of all offenders, EHA cases and how to supervise those offenders and on call procedures.
  • Chief is responsible for teaching staff professionalism, contact requirements, arrest, violation process, effective communication skills with staff, offenders, judicial officials and outside agencies. Approve leave, staffed cases, approved violations, observed officers in court to show support and guidance through the process. Assist with searches and arrest to ensure policy is followed. Provide leadership. Conduct multiple case reviews to ensure policy and procedures are used and as a training tool for staff. Conduct interviews for new employees in the entire Division and neighboring Division for all districts.
  • Selected as a member of the Audit Team for high profile cases statewide. The case reviews I conducted was used statewide as a training tool for new Chief Probation Officers, New Managers and veteran Chiefs and Managers.

I arrest when necessary and cite those who fall into that category. I handled all of my hearings in court for the offenders I supervise. I kept abreast of all policy changes and followed.

  • I was the first Chief Probation Officer in the state selected to attend and complete Correctional Leadership School that was only offered to Managers.
  • I served on the Employee Relations Committee for the state hearing grievances filed by state employees.
  • I served on the State's First Domestic Violence Task Force. Chaired the county Domestic Violence Task Force in Goldsboro.
  • I served on the committee that revised the Division of Community Corrections Technical Manual that was utilized statewide.
