I am Enthusiastic about college and eager to contribute to a team of individuals through hard work, attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. I have a clear understanding of the arts and training in multiple dance styles . I am motivated to learn, grow and excel in this program.
I serve as the teaching assistance in the Dance Technique Class (for children 3 and up) under Master Instructor Terrie Ajile Axam. This class is designed for the young dance to learn every possible component of dance based on the student's age. It is a Creative Movement approach in addition to a highly technical approach.
I completed a 36 hour lifeguard training program at the Andrew & Walter Young Family YMCA. The training included American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) and First Aid, equipment-based rescues for aquatic environments, accident prevention, and decision making skills. Additionally, I was required to complete of written tests and performance of all water skills.
The water skills included are 1) tread water for at least 2 minutes;
2) swim 100 yards of front crawl;
3) swim 50 yards each of: front crawl with head up, sidestroke, breaststroke, breaststroke with head up, inverted breaststroke kick with hands on stomach;
4) perform a feet first surface dive in 8 to 10 feet of water and then swim underwater for 15 feet;
5) Perform a series of tasks given by the instructor to demonstrate listening and scanning ability as well as stamina and endurance.
TDT Esprit is a dance company comprised of young dancers who train in Ballet, Modern, West African, Hip Hop, Tap, and Jazz. We are techniqe based company that performs locally and nationally using the arts as a meaningful form of communication with a focus of celebrating the African American culture while sharing in diversity. Through TDT Esprit, I performed in the following productions..."Girl Why You Dance Like That, Fusion From Africa to Hip Hop," under the direction of Terrie Ajile Axam; "Claire and the Chocolate Nutcracker, featurnig Jamine Guy" under the direction of Dawn Axam; and "Oz" under the direction of Dawn Axam. Community service is an integral component of the dance company. Accordingly, we regularly perform for audiences at Sadie G. Mays Nursing Home; Carrie Steele Pitts Orphanage, Atlanta Children's Shelter, Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry, and many others.
