Hawaii Pacific Health - Antique Mall Store Owner
Honolulu, HI, 09/2012 - 01/2019

In September 2012 I opened a 10,000 sq ft Antique and Flea Mall. The store consisted of rented booth space for vendors to sell their antiques and such. I also sold antiques as well. In 2015 I took on a partner and doubled the stores retail space to 20,000 sq ft and over 100 vendors. Our sales through the register my final year before selling the business was $990,000.00. Our vendors were very happy with the store and there was always a waiting list to rent space when available. The store was known for the quality merchandise and fair pricing. Our customers were repeat buyers and gave great reviews for our staff and the store itself.

My job was to operate a store that was successful for myself and my vendors. I sold the store for a profit and moved to West Virginia to help take care of my parents.

Jackson Hospital And Clinic - Surgical Technologist
City, STATE, 03/2002 - 08/2009

Jackson Hospital in Montgomery Alabama conducted a 5 month Surgical Tech education program through their nursing services in the OR. We were taught to assist the surgeons and always maintain sterile technique. I was instructed to

  • Set up equipment, tools and supplies for procedures and organize instruments as directed in surgeons' preference cards.
  • Used retractors, sponges and suctioning and irrigating equipment to create unobstructed operating fields.
  • Collected and prepared tissue specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintained reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment, including decontamination, cleaning, sterilizing, storing and distributing.
  • Collaborated with vendors and service providers to coordinate required services and equipment.
  • Cleaned and sterilized surgical sites and managed supply inventory and organization.

At Jackson Hospital we were trained in every specialty and then specialized in 2. My specialties were Neuro and specialized in neuro with Big Back surgeries. My second choice in specialties was general/plastics. This covered a large area of surgery types and each day was never the same because of it. I guess I liked big cases that were very involved and rewarding in their outcomes.

After a year of training we then helped in the training of new scrub techs. Because of the way we were trained we were invested in each other and therefore provided quality work for our patients and surgeons. Teamwork was always a part of everyday . From setting up cases, checking supplies for upcoming cases, turning rooms over, working in decontam to sterilize trays, etc., acting as second scrubs when necessary, whatever was needed. I enjoyed the fast pace of each day. We ran 15 rooms and a c-section room.

Walmart - Walmart Associate
City, STATE, 02/1995 - 11/1999

I was hired as a daytime stocker. I worked this position for almost a year. I applied for a department manager and had that job for 8 months. I was asked to become the personnel manager at store #930. I worked this position and was then trained in the invoice office and the cash office. My goal was to become an assistant manager. I was taught a lot in my time at Walmart that I used later on in my career. Some of these were:

  • Identified needs of customers promptly and efficiently.
  • Enforced company policies, answered coworkers' questions and trained new personnel.
  • Coached team on company policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance operational efficiency, employee productivity and subsequently decrease labor costs.
  • Assisted teammates with sales-processing tasks to meet daily sales goals.
