The primary purpose of the armed ANG Special Deputy Security Officer is to serve in support of the 181st Intelligance Wing, Terre Haute, Indiana Air National Guard. The incumbent performs aerospace weapons systems security: defends and protects Air National Guard installation, personnel, equipment and facilities: and maintains law and order, preserves the peace, and provides security of property and personnel.
Control entry to and egress from the location via designated entry/exit points;
Monitor alarm equipment and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) when applicable and initiate appropriate response forces.
Patrol/protect location perimeters and equipment storage areas to detect or deter unauthorized entry.
Provide administrative support to unit Security Force Operations.

Enforces local, state, and federal laws by implementing effective policy to protect the lives and property of the people.
Monitors security cameras and performs perimeter security checks of the Courthouse and grounds, ensuring the safety of all employees and visitors.
Scans articles through X-ray machine, monitors metal detectors, and searches individuals who set alarm off.
Apprehends and arrests persons who violate state, federal, or county laws, advising individuals of their constitutional rights, searching suspects/arrestees, and seizing weapons and/or contraband.
Collects, preserves, and maintains chain of custody of evidence. Escorts inmates from Court back to the Jail.
Provides assistance in Court as needed, taking individuals into custody at Judge's request and serving warrants as needed.
Assists officers from other departments who come to the Courthouse for paperwork, hearings, and/or trials.
Gathers/disperses information to individuals on a need-to-know basis.
Assists the public when entering and visiting the Courthouse.
Responds to emergency calls for help and/or panic button alarms, and evacuates Courthouse in cases of bomb threats or other emergencies.
Prepares and submits to superiors all required reports and summaries of activities according to established Department deadlines.
Provides testimony in legal proceedings/court as necessary. Maintains confidentiality and security of information.
Attends seminars and in-service training as required. Occasionally responds to emergencies on a 24-hour basis. Performs related duties as assigned.

This program places a trained law enforcement officer daily in each county school during the school year along with a marked squad car. The intent of this program is to provide protection to the children and teachers of the school as well as to develop a relationship between the Sheriff's Office, the County Schools and students. These Special Deputies are vested with full arrest powers and have the training necessary to respond to any situation.
