I began my career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Correctional Officer at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Sheridan, OR in September 1991 and went on to hold positions of greater responsibility as a Case Manager, Case Management Coordinator, and Unit Manager before being named as Executive Assistant at the United States Penitentiary (USP) Terre Haute, IN. I was subsequently promoted to the position of Executive Assistant for the Information, Policy, and Public Affairs Division in the Central Office in Washington, DC, Associate Warden at the Federal Correctional Complex in Petersburg, Virginia and was named Warden at FCI Sandstone, MN in October 2005, Warden at the Metropolitan Correctional Center New York, NY in March 2007, Warden at USP Hazelton, WV in October 2009 and have been Warden at FCI Greenville since July 2010.
As Warden, I provide safe, secure, and humane housing for approximately 1500 incarcerated men and women. To accomplish that mission, I oversee the performance of 285 staff from Correctional Officers to Physicians and a budget of over $36 million. I accomplish that responsibility while also providing opportunities for those under my care to address educational, developmental and behavioral deficiencies by participating in programming aimed at preparing them for their eventual release from custody,
As a commissioned Officer, I oversaw the security of highly sensitive government resources and millions of dollars of government assets by leading a flight of approximately 125 personnel. I ensured my troops were trained to a highly effective level, were prepared for any contingency and performed with the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.
Throughout my adult life, I have been actively involved in religious activities where I tried to faithfully live out my beliefs. Those activities have included teaching Sunday School to all ages from children to adults, starting and working in AWANA programs, serving as a deacon, evangelism, worked with disabled children, camp counselor and have served on various committees. I currently teach a Sunday School class of approximately 20 adults, lead a small group Bible study, work as an AWANA leader and serve on the Building Committee.
