  • Lead a department of nearly 160 employees comprised of managers, superintendents, engineers, technicians, electrical line workers and a variety of other roles.
  • Work closely with human resources, safety and training personnel to hire, promote and develop employees to achieve maximum effectiveness.
  • Continuously set goals and priorities in order to provide the most reliable electric energy at the least possible cost to our members, while meeting the demands of unprecedented growth.
  • Manage a multi-million dollar operations, maintenance and plant budget for the largest electric cooperative in the state of South Carolina that is also one of the fastest growing in the nation.
  • Oversee the negotiating, bidding and management of a wide variety of contracts and service agreements, totaling millions of dollars, with contractors and consulting firms.
  • Coordinate extensively with electric utility industry organizations, such as Statewide, Central, CEE-US, Dominion and Santee Cooper, to ensure that our Cooperative’s needs are met.
  • Actively participate on NRECA and Statewide engineering committees to help prepare bulletins, guides, specifications and standards for all cooperatives to use.
  • Meet with various member or community groups to communicate our efforts, and gain support, for high profile and sensitive projects; examples include our Wadmalaw, Longpoint and McClellanville substations and associated transmission lines.
  • Work closely with other employees, county officials, power suppliers and economic development entities, to ensure that we can provide the reliable and economical service desired by industrial prospects.
  • Led the effort to find and purchase the best possible site for our new Johns Island District office; met with members, community groups and county council to gain support and acquire approval to re-zone the site for our use.
  • Coordinated with SCE&G (now Dominion) to establish re-defined territorial boundaries to reduce costs to our members due to legal disputes and unnecessary new line construction.
  • Established a system reliability initiative referred to as Vision 2020, that set specific goals and guidelines, to improve the Cooperative’s SAIDI and SAIFI to unprecedented levels.
  • Rewrote the Cooperative’s Major Storm Plan to engage all departments and personnel in responding to hurricanes, tropical and ice storms; lead the annual review of this plan.
  • Created a new division wholly focused on Vegetation Management (ROW clearing and maintenance) that has improved distribution line rights-of-way to conditions never before seen at the Cooperative.
  • Developed a program to enhance inspection, patrolling, testing and maintenance programs that has resulted in the removal of thousands of possible hazardous conditions, and potential causes of outages, from the Cooperative's electrical distribution system.
  • In the face of several key retirements, re-structured the E&O department, filling manager and superintendent roles with the best possible talent, to establish a unified and highly productive team.
  • Combined contracts and work orders into one section and established the Cooperative’s first female superintendent over this section.
  • Redesigned the electrical line worker program, in the face of enormous turnover, to strengthen this mission critical workforce at the Jessicae of need and for years to come.
04/2005 to 01/2011 Manager of Engineering and Technical Services Berkeley Electric Cooperative Inc. | City, STATE,
  • Managed a section of 35 employees that included primarily engineers and technicians, including those in GIS, substations, metering, and telecommunications.
  • During the recession around 2008, made cuts to a list of system improvements that reduced capital investments by 50%.
  • Directed the completion of the Cooperative’s Work Plans, Long Range Engineering Plans, and O&M Surveys, working closely with the Rural Utilities Service (RUS).
  • Planned and set priorities for the conversion of the electrical distribution system from 12.47 KV to 25 KV to improve the stability of the system.
  • Led the effort to perform a complete GPS and inventory of the electrical distribution system and add identification tags to every pole and piece of equipment.
  • Implemented state of the art controls and relays and worked with manufacturer to re-design the controls for the Cooperative’s use.
