AsTransportation Director at Messalonskee School District over the last twenty four years, I've had an opportunity to grow and mature into an individual that has taken a fleet of drivers and vehicles from being just another status quo district to being the model within the State of Maine for transportation departments. These changes didn't happen by mistake but through a long range plan with dedicated steps along the way and making sure that the transportation personnel participated in the plan through out the process. The maintenance department techinicians were upgraded and more qualdfied to better serve the drivers and insure that the buses were always safe for the road. A long term replacement plan was initiated to upgrade the fleet of buses. Messalonskee School District was one of the pioneers that started using transportation software to make routes more effective and efficient. And finally a position of safety coordinator was added that paid dividends with the increase emphasis on safety. We were able to provide training to transportation personnel at a state level, county level, and now at a district level.
I have been very fortunate to bring my skills and successes to a state level, when I became part of the leadership with the Maine Association for Pupil Transportation. At first the organization was financially insolvent and near its death. Under my leadership, along with dedicated directors, we were able to stabilize the organization and with detail steps we brought the organization back from the brink of disaster to become a leader in the transportation industry in Maine. Soon M.A.P.T. became the training arm for the Department of Education and then we partnered with D.O.E. to bring school bus transportation into the twenty first century through consolidation/regionlization and computerized software.
