Being a Team leader at Chick fil-a came with many opportunities. The most important being how to lead an impressive team to serve our community at a fast-pace while being accurate and positive. It was my job to build up the team and serve the team, from helping them move up in the company, to keeping in touch with their personal lives, to investing into them on a personal or work. This position also brought about many learning opportunities. I learned how to resolve conflict, how to work under pressure and keep calm in stressful situations, I learned about money and time management, but the most important thing that I learned is that every person I came in contact with, wether it be a team member or a guest, was to truly serve them and their need in that moment. I learned that everyone has a bad day and a simple smile or gesture of kindness can mean the world to them. Throughout learning this, my fellow team leaders and I were able to create a positive atmosphere, so anyone and everyone felt welcomed. While being at chick fil-a I, along with a fellow team leader, headed a “heart of leadership class.” Through this, we were able to teach team members about what it means to be a true leader both inside and outside of work. I also recently helped build a system called “pods.” This is a multi-level system that allows each person under the employment at our location to have a mentor/coach. This allowed us to grow closer as a team and learn how to customize a plan to make their job worthwhile and important. I have personally coached two people into the team leader position. This was such a privilege! Chick fil- a has changed me for the better. It has taught me many valuable life skills, as well as skills that will help me in my future jobs.
Last year I applied and interviewed to be a part of Bentonville High School's Ignite medical sciences internship. Through this, I was able to take medical terminology, EMR, Phlebotomy, and EMT. I also had the opportunity to shadow several Doctors, paramedics, and nurses. I was able to witness incredible things. This ultimately solidified my decision to become an ER doctor and be a part of the medical field. I learned about HIPPA, end of life care, and mental health as a worker in the healthcare field. I was able to volunteer to help set up and take down the “walk for Alzheimer's” last year, I even taught a class of kids who were “at-risk” how to do CPR. I received my CPR certification, as well as my “safe-talk” certification. I had the opportunity to volunteer at Northwest Hospital to hold babies in the NICU. I learned how to handle patients with mental illnesses and what to do in dangerous situations. This internship was beyond what I could have ever imagined. It opened my eyes to a world of hurt and pain, and it showed me that someday I can be there to help those people. This opportunity was beyond a blessing.
Last year I had the privilege to be a part of Bentonville High School's Medical ignite program. Not long after the school year started last year, Ignite was approached by Jeff Rivers at Mercy, about launching an Anti-vaping ad campaign. My teacher, Mrs.Broughton, selected 4 of us from the program to work along side mercy to create this campaign. We started by creating anonymous questionnaires to send out to our local schools. Through that, we received data on the demographics of vaping. With that data, we then created a slide show contains over 40 slides of graphs, charts, stories of teens who had recently died or underwent serious harm to their bodies due to the dangers of vaping. We then, presented it to Mercy board. This slideshow is intended to travel across the U.S to warn people of the real dangers of Vaping. I learned how to work professionally alongside businessmen and women, doctors, teachers and even some of my own classmates. We are beyond proud of this accomplishment, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn through it all!
