As a National Board Certified Teacher with an Early and Middle Childhood Endorsement in Literacy and Reading, I am very interested in the role of Elementary Reading Interventionist. With 25 years of teaching experience predominantly with kindergarten and first graders, I am highly qualified to serve as a Reading Interventionist who will work extensively with students in order to increase their reading achievement. In my current role as classroom teacher, I plan and implement Guided Reading lessons for a variety of levels of student readers. I have received training in the Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Instruction model and apply these strategies as I teach my developing readers. By designing content that is specific to student reading goals, I encourage each learner to develop and grow as a reader. Using student data, I monitor instruction and identify areas for improvement. I write S.M.A.R.T. goals for students and monitor their progress in response to intervention needs that they may have. Trained by Marilyn Friend to implement her Co-Teaching model, I work closely with the Special Education Teacher and team to support the needs of students. By maintaining consistent communication among the teachers who work within our “Co-Taught” class, I am able to share ideas, address student learning goals, and monitor and make instructional adjustments in order for students to be successful. In May of this year, I will have completed the final course of the four required to receive the full Read to Succeed Literacy Teacher endorsement for my teaching certification. I am an outstanding teacher because I display patience and calmness when working with young children. I know that my students have so much to learn and that I have an important job to do. By loving and building relationships with them, they trust me and know that I want what is best for them. By establishing a personal bond with each one, my students are willing to work hard and let me be their guide and teacher as they develop as learners. These are the essential qualities that make me a strong candidate for the position of Elementary Reading Interventionist.
