SUMMER SWIM TEAM COACH (2 YEARS)
Summary

I have been a life long Dunn Loring Swim Club (DLSC) member. One of my first memories at DLSC was finally passing the patch test when I was 5, after 3 failed attempts, and being more excited about joining the swim team than I was about going of the diving boards. I continued to be a swimmer on the Dunn Loring Swim Team until I was 18 last summer. Additionally, I have swum year round between the ages of 5-15. I also swam at George C. Marshall (GCM) High School my freshman, sophomore, and senior year. I also played Varsity soccer all four years of high school. Furthermore, in high school I completed a lot of service hours, including being a Girls on the Run coach at West Gate Elementary School. I gradated from GCM high school in 2020, and I am now at the University of Virginia studying biomedical engineering. This upcoming season I am looking forward to applying my abilities and knowledge to improve kids strokes, times, and foster an enjoyable environment to learn/practice swimming. I also intend to carry on Dunn Loring Swim Team traditions that helped make my seasons when I was younger.

Skills
  • Group and individual instruction: I have been a coach at Dunn Loring Swim club for both winter and summer swim programs. Through these two jobs, I have become good at spotting mistakes in swimmers strokes and correcting them.
  • Experienced swimmer: I have been swimming since I was 5 years old. I swam year round from the ages 15. I have been on the Dunn Loring Swim Team since I was 5, frequently have been to Divisionals and All Stars (both individual and relay), and I currently hold 2 Dunn Loring records. I also was on the George C. Marshall Varsity Swim team for 3 years of varsity. While I was on the Marshall Swim Team I received the MVP award my sophomore year, competed at many conference meets (winning the 100 backstroke my sophomore year and placing second my freshman year), swam at regional meets(fr,so,sr year), swam at the state meet my freshman year, and was the captain of the swim team my senior year. I still swim in college for fun because I love the sport, and I hope to foster the same love for swimming in all the swimmers in the Dunn Loring Swim Club through my job as a coach.
  • Lifelong Dunn Loring Swim Club member: I have been going to Dunn Loring Swim Club when I was 4. Thus, I am familiar with the families and traditions of this pool. As a Head Coach I intend to carry on the Dunn Loring Swim Club traditions and create the same fun and engaging environment that I had when I was a child on the swim team.
  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • Designing effective swim work outs: I have been swimming for long time, and as a result, I am very skilled at making swim workouts that will benefit a majority of the swimmers.
  • People skills: Over my years of coaching I have frequently had to deal with parents and kids. This has helped me developed good communication skills.
  • Strength training knowledge: In high school I took weight lifting and various health courses. As a result I am very familiar with exercises that can be implemented in the strength training, dry land, i plan to implement to help make the swimmers stronger and faster.
  • Good leader: In high school have had experience with being in a leader by being a swim team captain and a girls on the run coach. Through these two experiences, I have learned hoe to be a role model to younger kids and delegate responsibilities fairly between other people I work with.
  • Responsible: When I worked as a summer swim coach at Dunn Loring Swim Club, I consistently showed up to practice 15 minutes early, so the pool would always be ready right at 8:00 for swimmers. As Head Coach I will make sure that everything is done on time and done well, so the swim season can run as smoothly as possible.

As a summer swim team coach I help kids achieve legality in all strokes, improved kids stroke techniques, consistently helped kids drop time in A and B meets, and created a fun and encouraging environment for everyone on the team.
