I am a 20 year old college student, pursuing my degree in Business Management. Through out my 5 years of job experience thus far, I have been able to shape and own my leadership and abilities. Retail has become my addiction and I have thrived ever since. From simple day to day to the deeper details, I seek it all. I am an asset, through bigger an smaller roles.
I'm addicted to retail and this is where I flourish.
I was a key holder and primary closer from October 2018 through June 2020. I have a range of responsibilities beginning with extensive knowledge of the Style Encore register software, from normal register operations to closing operations, like tallying and replenishing the register and keeping track of the store's sales and buy spending. Along with being a key holder, I held the title of a lead buyer, which involved inputting the new clothing into the system and directing the guest interactions associated with it. This would involve the initial introduction to the company and our processes and the final total of their items. In addition to these, I would ensure my team stayed on task as well as made it to their designated breaks on time. Time management plays a big role in my work. I would make sure other closing duties were done such as sweeping the sales floor and making sure the trash was taken out. Another task I helped with was making sure the weekly clothing donations were organized and properly distributed to our charity of choice. Leadership extended to training the new team members and creating daily game plans and strategy for the team. This communication with my team, drove forward productivity and decreased conflict.
I organized and took out clothing to the floor, along with managing sales and price changes associated with the sales week. I would regularly go through our inventory and backstock items, along with storing and retrieving inventory from the back room. This was paired with labeling and tracking the storage containers as well. Additionally, I would assist in the floor plan, making everything efficient and desirable for our customers. This often involved creating fixtures or spotlights on desirable, relevant items in the store. For example, during holidays I would spotlight items, from accessories to apparel according to the theme.
I would interact with customers behind the counter and on the sales floor, helping them style outfits and find specific items. Customer interactions extended to handing difficult customer experiences as well. I pride myself in being able to handle those tougher customer moments with understanding and calm, quick solutions. One of my other duties was helping operate the social media page by selecting clothing and posting desirable pictures for customers to purchase. This task would increase sales, bringing in out-of-town customers to purchase and become aware of us. This task was in tandem with dressing mannequins and putting up new behind-the-counter displays, keeping the floor updated with new arrivals. Additionally, I was tasked with selecting the product signage around the store. This involved visualizing and selecting desirable signage that hung above each rack in the store. It lines every wall.
I graded math and reading papers, from grades Pre-K through 12th grade. I tutored children and organized paper assignments in the back room and into their take-home bags. I would distribute homework and keep children on task and calm. Additionally, I had cleaning duties like wiping down tables and taking out the trash, and keeping bookshelves and desks organized. I would also interact with their parents and help recap their children's experiences.
