My goal in life is to be able to help people and impact their lives in a positive way. During my previous job, I took care of children at an aftercare program. I am able to provide excellent childcare. I am a very friendly and giving person. It is easy for me to get to know people and build relationships with them. I love working with children because it is fulfilling to me.
In September of 2009, when I was a senior in high school, I started working at the YMCA as a teacher's aide for the Kinderwrap aftercare program. I love children, and being able to work with them was a privilege. I never felt like I was working, since I enjoyed myself so much. At work, I would plan activities and crafts. I also liked to keep the children active by taking them outside, running around and playing sports with them. Later on during my time with the YMCA, they implemented a healthy lifestyle program. The goal of the new program was to keep kids active, eat healthy and live a healthy lifestyle. The four classes I had during my four years there I had 20-25 children in the aftercare program on average. Things were hectic at times, but my co-workers and myself were always able to calm the children down. I loved teaching the kids new things. I would bring in embroidery floss in so I could teach them how to make friendship bracelets. I would teach the children proper manners and how important it is to share. The final year of my time with the YMCA, my title was changed to site supervisor. One of the hardest parts of my job was saying goodbye to the children at the end of the school year. I had built strong relationships with the kids and their families each year, and saying goodbye was always tough. Overall, the YMCA was a great experience. I'm very glad I had the opportunity to work there.
