I am a dedicated Porter County Sheriff's Deputy and School Resource Officer for Portage Township Schools. Throughout my 5 year career as a law enforcement officer, I have obtained several certifications through the state of Indiana. Some of the most used certifications are completion of the Bowmac - Interview and Interrogation course, National School Resource Officer certification, Indiana School Safety Specialist and Restorative Justice course.
I take a great amount of pride in serving my community as both a law enforcement officer and a role model for the youth. I understand that safety and security is extremely important and I take pride in helping members of the community feel safe while residing in or visiting Porter County. Education if important to me and I am a very open minded officer. The world of policing is always changing/evolving and I think it is important to learn new things as much as possible.
I feel as if I would be a great addition to an already highly respected Indiana Harbor Belt Police Department and would serve well. If given a position in this department, I know I will strive and be a very productive officer. I am a selfless officer and I understand that working with others is sometimes what is best for the situation on hand.
I started my career in the patrol division, patrolling all un-incorporated Porter County (700 square miles of county roads and serving approximately 70,000 residents). While working as a patrolman, I acquired the following specialty assignments;
Bike Patrol - Riding the Porter County Sheriff's Depatment's police bicycles for public relations events (parades), extra presence in high traffic complaint area and night patrol in high crime areas.
Heroin Overdose Response Team (HORT) - Investigate all heroin/opioid related overdoses as if they are crimes. Collecting evidence (narcotics, paraphernalia, phones ect..), interviewing the victims and getting their dealer information, which is provided to the local undercover narcotics division and organizing a meeting with the victim and a narcotic unit to have them work as a Confidential Information for them.
Honor Guard - Travel to all officer's funerals who died in the line of duty in Indiana or nearby out of state agencies. Organize and carry out all Honor Guard responsibilities during any Porter County officer's funeral. Responsible for all Honor Guard details at annual Police Officer Memorial Ceremony for the Porter County Sheriff's Department.
School Resource Officer (part time) - Ensure the safety and security of the staff and students and Boone Grove Schools. Check the interior and exterior doors of the schools and check the outside of the building. Monitor and supervise lunch periods. Participate in educational presentations of a variety of safety topics with both students and staff.
My assignment as a jail officer was mainly to supervise and manage inmates throughout the jail. I would supervise up to 200 inmates at one time and be responsible for their movement inside the jail like escorting them to court, programs, attorney visits and other events. Jail officers were required to document any inmate information from their movements in the facility to their acceptance of each meal they are provided.
My job as a security officer for Porter Regional Hospital was to ensure the safety and security of patients and staff members. The job consisted of interior and exterior checks throughout the hospital and its grounds. Security officers were also responsible for supervising patients who were brought in as a suicide risk, to insure their safety and prevent them from harming themselves, or others. I would do all these assignments with keeping all patient information confidential with hospital staff (doctors and nurses) only.
