My employer is recognized Worldwide for our inventory of fine, late model Exotic Automobiles. Pre-Covid, we had 180 cars on site which was the equivalent value of $45 million dollars of inventory.
I currently am responsible for the daily operations in the service department with a team of 3 for a sales driven repair facility. We currently see 70 to 100 cars per month and perform comprehensive inspections of all purchased high end automobiles. Which include, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Lotus, Maserati, McLaren, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Rolls Royce.
My team make all needed repairs and perform needed service to have front line cars ready for sale. All vehicles sold go though the service department first where we determine if the car is worthy of sales by us or wholesaled.
I also work as needed in the shop performing diagnostics and repairs or to lend a hand on more difficult repairs. My daily duties include coordinating and prioritizing our service customers and integrating those needs in with the repairs of our sales cars. With my strong relationships with various suppliers and dealers to obtain the best price and turn around time in order to gain a higher gross profit margin. I then in turn place orders for parts, send parts out for repair, and allocate all in house jobs to my technicians.
Job duties included service, diagnostics and repair of European and Japanese automobiles. As a team leader, I was responsible for 4 employees under my guidance and training. As a unit, we handled PPI, bodyshop suspension damage, repair, service, diagnostics, alignment and maintenance. As a team, we worked diligently to maximize our profitability and minimize time spent performing repairs. I implemented performance goals which were met with monetary compensation as incentive for work well done.
Coordinated and provided on hand training with kids from local high schools as an introduction into the automotive world of repair. Working in this position allowed me to get back into an automotive repair and training focus.
It was nice to focus on my skill as a technician especially with ongoing training that I was able to utilize in a daily practical application.
Performed duties which encompassed service and repair of all European Automobiles that were brought in for repair. I also performed all diagnostics for the majority of check engine light issues on all vehicles and diagnosing issues generated in the shop from other technicians on repaired vehicles.
Working with my various dealers and suppliers with all my years in the industry and friendships to obtain good pricing and quick delivery, I was tasked with purchasing my own parts to maximize my efficiency and effectiveness in the shop.
This position was created though a friendship with the owner and his desire to expand into European vehicles. He also created "Girls in the Garage" which is a big hit with women as we had dedicated 1 day a month for a catered, one on one training evening with usually over 100 attendees. Training was going over the basics of car ownership, fundamentals of checking oil, tire pressure, what the lights were for on the dash, changing tires, etc.
As service manager, duties included handling all the customers at the counter, writing service, preparing estimates and selling the jobs. I was also tasked with parts ordering and management. Job title also included role as shop forman to manage flow within the shop and handle any issues that came. At times, I was still a working manager. Rebuilt a few Porsche engines and resealed several BMW M62 engines while training technicians to be able to perform the same repair on their own, aside from overseeing shop operations and checking work of finished vehicles.
Also handled accounting, ensuring all invoices matched to statements from all our vendors for payment at the end of the month for the owner.
