Project : Object Detection using Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) algorithm in Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)

This project mainly focused on detection of objects such as Vehicle and Pedestrian using Histogram of Oriented Gradient algorithm. Live video is captured from the camera that is mounted on the car. This video is then converted to images and image processing algorithms are performed on it. The detected objects are marked and then sent to the display screen.

Main objective of this project is to warn the driver for any approaching / close by object that could cause a crash.

  • Developed and incorporated Image Cropping module to the already existing Vehicle Detection algorithm, which significantly reduced the overall processing time of the algorithm.
  • Developed object tracking algorithm using template matching .
  • Was involved in creating test images for both positive and negative test cases using Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm.
  • Implemented a framework from scratch to port the integrated Vehicle and Pedestrian detection algorithms on Texas Instruments TDA2x platform.
  • Worked closely with the testing team to rectify any false / missed detections so that the algorithm can be modified accordingly.
  • Optimized the code to achieve real-time performance on the TDA2x platform.
  • Worked closely with the testing team to rectify any false / missed detection.
  • Participated in daily standup and scrum meetings to discuss the project directions and milestones achieved.
