Starting in my earlier teens i worked closely with progressive/natural horsemanship trainer as an apprentice. This taught me how to help manage and care for a large equine facility with duties including but not limited to: feeding, watering, cleaning water buckets, cleaning/conditioning tack and saddles, exercising horses, working horses, training horses, selling merchandise, assisting my trainer, teaching clients, travel assistants on the road, administering medications, full time dedication living above the barn in loft apartments, etc.
My first official job was as a main hostess on the weekends on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday brunch and during holidays. Dearstyne's Bistro family owned and operated high-end NY style bistro. My duties included: greeting and seating customers, managing the waiting list, running food/drinks/bread, managing to-go orders, ringing customers up for to-go orders, busing tables, answering phones, making coffee/espresso/cappuccino, closing out each server by hand and recording numbers and sales, etc in the books, counting the drawer at the end of the night and closing-out the register, cleaning the bathrooms, opening the restaurant on Sundays, etc. My experience taught me many skills such as customer service skills, working as a team with fellow co-workers, working in a fast paced environment, time management, time management, etc.
After i graduated from my senior year in high school i worked in LA, CA on an independent film as a production assistant. My duties included: running errands, craft service, set "lock down" when filming, helping to manage and communicate need to different production crew members, helping with "talent", running errands, dropping off film from daily shoots, etc. This gave me a good base of experience working with large crews and money/time management and how to push through working long hours such as 16 hour days for 6-7 days weeks for a 6 week period of time, working as a team among many other learning perks. I also worked in production in Los Angeles after my freshmen year in college on Monster Garage with Discover Channel as well as a production coordinator which taught me how to manage paperwork, petty cash, answering phones, setting up flights for the talent, filing paperwork, getting releases signed, booking accommodations for talent, craft service, running errands, etc.
Faux-finishes and murals: working closely as an assistant to a professional of 30 years in the Lake Norman surrounding areas. Sharon Goheen taught me many different ways to use faux finishing techniques, setting up outlines for murals and how to build a aolid professional relationship with clients to help execute a pleasing creative edge to their home/office/bathroom/etc. Another perk was learning how to have a professional demeanor when working directly with clients and how to conduct client meetings/consultations at the beginning of each job/project.
Moving high end furniture working as assistant with a local moving company called, Schimmerhorn Moving Service. Duties included but not limited to: answering calls, travel assistance on the road such as booking hotels and helping with navigation, moving antique furniture, sales of merchandise and artwork, working with Atlanta Furniture Market, building customer/client relationships, organizing and packing the moving truck, unloading/loading truck, etc.
After having my daughter i nannied for a while and then started working for Great Harvest Bread Company where i continued to learn more skills for working with customer service in a fast paced environment building customer relations, running cash register, opening/closing the store, merchandise, making granola and packing/labeling, slicing/bagging bread, memorizing nutritional facts, changing out the menu board daily to show daily specials and prices, cleaning the bathroom, setting up sweets sampler case, working with a small team to run a successful franchise local bakery.
Farm Manager for Bell's Best Berries with duties including: seeding, weeding, harvesting, packing, runs, filling orders and deliveries to local restaurants, feeding chickens and fresh water, sales at the farmer's market, packing CSA members bags and delivering to customers, composting, spreading compost, tilling, transplanting, etc.
Screen-printer's assistant working closely with a local artist hand silk screen printer seasonally for the past 10 years. The Visual Arts program at UNCSA is an intensive arts experience consisting of Design, Drawing, Sculpture classes, and Art History. We learned how to work in groups and individually on projects and how to market ourselves as artists in the modern world and how to incorporate this into our way of life. We learned to expand our artistic abilities using different techniques and projects to utilize our strengths and work on our weaker points.
