Wilderness Medicine Club, Member, 09/2016-04/2017
The Wilderness Medicine Club is an organization that allows students who enjoy outdoor activities to apply this to their medical education. One of the annual events hosted by this organization is an outdoor race. The race asks medical students who attend from both LMU and neighboring medical schools to treat "patients" using first-aid/BLS on different parts of the trail. Members of the Wilderness Medicine Club are asked to organize the event, from providing food and drinks to being patients on the trail.
Osteopathic Principles and Practices, Teaching Assistant, 09/2016-12/2016
Due to large class sizes, obtaining one-on-one guidance for OMT during lab was difficult at LMU-DCOM. Because of this, student volunteers are asked to attend OPP labs during the first years' instruction in order to help answer questions and provide guidance. This improves the abilities of the volunteers while helping the first year students acquire their basic skills.
Math DOcs, Math Tutor, 09/2016-12/2016
Math DOcs is a volunteer experience which provides math tutoring to local elementary school children. Medical students who participate use their lunch one day a week to drive to a local elementary school and tutor students. The one-on-one time learning math helps the students to improve their skills while giving them a positive role model in the form of a medical student volunteering their time.
Greet and Treat, OMT Practitioner/Volunteer, 08/2016 - 05/2017
Greet and Treat is a project of the Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO) at LMU-DCOM. This project provides medical students with extra time practicing OMT while educating others on the benefits of osteopathic medicine. Students and faculty at Lincoln Memorial University attend Greet and Treat to receive treatment for minor aches and pains with OMT. This educates more of the public about the benefits of OMT while improving the skills of the students who participate.
