Experience
09/2019 to Current
Research Scientist 1 Northwest Hospital Health, WA,

(Department of Microbiology & Immunology)

Research Scientist 1

Currently working as a research scientist 1 at the University of Texas Medical Branch, with job duties that include research on the crosstalk between macrophages, platelets, and the liver in the development of hyper coagulability in Chagas disease.

  • Current investigation focused to elucidate the mechanistic role of T. cruzi infection induced extra cellular vesicles in macrophage and platelet activation, and their collective roles in the regulation of hepatic pro and anticoagulants synthesis, and thrombo-inflammatory pathogenesis in Chagas disease.
  • Present research work is aimed to provide useful insights to develop potential molecular therapeutics to arrest inflammation and hypercoagulability mediated thromboembolic events in Chagas disease.

Key achievements:

  • Conceptualized this study and the fundamentals of this concept has been resulted in two first author publication in Journal of Inflammation Research (PMID 36217453) and in Frontiers of Immunology (PMID 33679710).
  • The study proposal received a pilot grant funded by the ‘Institute for Human Infections and Immunity’ of UTMB under Phase II -IHII FY2021 Research Grant Program.

University of Texas Medical Branch

(Department of Microbiology & Immunology)

Post-Doctoral Fellow

Galveston, Texas

3/2018 – 8/ 2019

  • Conceptualized and investigated how infection with Trypanosoma cruzi protozoa leads to the cardiac fibrosis and cardiomyopathy symptoms that characterize the most critical stage of the Chagas disease.
  • Examined the role of extracellular vesicles and macrophages experimentally and was able to find novel biomarkers that aid in both diagnosis and treatment evaluation of Chagas disease.
  • Utilized immunofluorescence, nanoparticle assay, SiRNA transfection, chemiluminescence, immunohistochemistry, RT -qPCR, western blot, immunoprecipitation, and gelatin zymography based immunology and molecular biological tools to get the scientific outcome for this ‘U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases’ funded study.

Key achievements:

  • Two of the most notable findings from these works are that (1) chemical inhibition of the enzyme PARP-1 offers a potential therapeutic target for mitigating extra cellular vesicles driven inflammation in Chagas disease and (2) the biomarkers of vimentin, 8- OHdG, copeptin, and endostatin provide substantial value in measuring Chagas risk and reliably diagnosing the disease and its stage.
  • The findings of these studies resulted in three notable scientific article publications in Plos Pathogens (PMID 32315358), mBio (PMID 33172999) and Microbiology Spectrum (PMID 34479416) journal. The findings published in Plos Pathogens journal, was recognized by PLOS Pathogens as one of the five best articles published in the journal during 2020 with top citations.
07/2015 to 02/2018
Clinical Scientist and Biochemist Kemin Industries, Inc. Sarcoxie, MO,
  • Demonstrated critical thoughts and root cause analysis skills to diagnose and resolve poor instrument performance and have interpreted critically alert clinical sample values and anomalous laboratory results.
  • Designed, standardized, and validated different immunoassays by verifying the performance of different calibrators, and controls (inter assay and intra assay) in closed and open setup-based immunoassay instruments
  • Utilized fully automated biochemistry and electro chemiluminescent immunoassay analyzers to increase patient sample throughput so that the report turnaround time maintain properly
  • Conducted laboratory internal audits, maintained laboratory work and quality standards as per ISO, NABL and NABH guidelines and ensured all the work protocols being followed as per standard operating procedures
  • Supervised and directed the daily laboratory activities
  • Conducted training programs and workshops to train laboratory scientific personnel and technicians for professional and scientific skill development
  • Conceptualized and conducted clinical research on ‘Roche Diagnostics’ funded project to evaluate the functional role of monocyte pro inflammatory response in determining the ratio of positive to negative acute-phase reactants ratio and hemorrhagic manifestations during dengue infections

Key achievements:

  • Work accuracy, efficiency and technical competency has been accredited by NABL, India, during internal audit conducted in 2016 and 2017
  • Roche Diagnostics funded research work resulted in one first author publication in Cytokine journal (PMID 34298483)
07/2014 to 06/2015
Research Associate IPGME&R (Department Of Biochemistry) City, STATE,
  • Designed the study and investigated the role of hyperlipidemia in increased formation of advanced lipoxidation end products (ALEs) and related adducts in diabetic retinal microangiopathy.
  • Analyzed data and evaluated the inhibitory effect of ALE adducts on erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity and their collective role in the initiation of mild non proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Key achievements:

  • The study outcome of this Indian council of Medical Research funded research work resulted in one first author publication in Canadian J of Diabetes (PMID 27916496)
