Mother-Baby care

  • · Assess patient conditions through observation, examination, interviewing, physical diagnosis, laboratory findings, age-related issues, and other pertaining information.
  • · Provide outstanding nursing care up to five normal to high-risk mother-newborn couplets. Manage care from admission to discharge. Implement nursing interventions to achieve progress toward expected patient’s outcome or to stabilize a patient’s condition and prevent complications.
  • · Perform ongoing assessment on mothers, including examining fundus, assessing the amount of lochia, examining a C-section incision site, pain management, and interventions.
  • · Admit newborns to the Nursery. Perform newborn assessment and physiological adaptation to extrauterine life during the transition period. Plan, and provide nursing interventions based on the outcome of the individual newborn’s examination.
  • · Assess neonates’ physical conditions continually and monitor parameters through discharge from the hospital. Perform procedures such as heel stick to collect blood for PKU, bilirubin testing, and blood sugar level testing.
  • · Manage pain control needs for patients.
  • · Promote the philosophy of maternal/ infant care that advocates breastfeeding and supports standard physiological functions involved in the establishment of the maternal/ infant process.
  • · Assess for and in collaboration with medical staff, stabilize and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions for medical complications such as postpartum hemorrhage, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH), diabetes, thermoregulation of the newborns, hypoglycemia of the newborns, hyperbilirubinemia.
  • · Promote exclusive breast feeding and educate mothers on advantages of breastfeeding; demonstrate different techniques and positions during breastfeeding babies.
  • · Engage in the development of caring milieu for grieving families.
  • · Provide and document patients/family education based on diagnosis, treatment plan, and prescribed medical regiment based on an assessment of patient/family readiness and ability to learn.
  • · Accurately document all aspects of postpartum in electronic charts, facilitating continuity of care for both mother and baby.

Gynecological care

  • · Provide postoperative patients care after gynecological surgeries.
  • · Monitor, assess and observe closely patients conditions.
  • · Render professional nursing care including medications administrations, intravenous, and blood product initiating. Perform both complex and routine treatment as prescribed by the physician or as warranted by patients’ conditions.
  • · Support patients recovering from surgery and identify complications.
  • · Track early warning signs of patients deterioration.
  • · Work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to develop individualized care plans, adjust treatment based on a patient’s need and responses to treatment.
  • · Educate patients on how to prevent postoperative complications.
  • · Accurately document all aspects of gynecological postoperative care is electronic charts.
