I enjoy crocheting and reading when I have time. Completing a big afghan is so satisfying in the winter time. Also I maintain our landscaping, lawn and flower garden.
I have a very big heart and foster four dogs. A female and her three puppies were abandoned by a neighbor. I also have two of my own dogs. They are work and take up some of my time but they provide good company when my husband is working out of town, which is a great deal of time.
I feel I have good communication skills which I adapt to the person I'm conversing with. That, of course, makes a difference here in my very rural area.
I enjoy research. And use the Internet all the time. Being able to answer a question so quickly is, well, mind blowing. In a good way. I'm on my computer or smart-phone a great deal of the time.
I've always been a caregiver and having four younger siblings I was frequently busy "doctoring" abrasions, nose bleeds, cuts, bee stings and I knew when we needed to call the folks for help when my brother broke his arm or a cut was bad enough to need sutures. It comes naturally to me and I love it and would never not want to nurse.
I'm loyal, to a fault at times. I worked at a law firm for seven years and learned everything I could. I hated leaving that job but being in a small town the level of pay was very poor. So I went to nursing school and got an education. I do have a love for law and wish I could merge nursing and law. But that would require me to be away from home a great deal.
You probably noticed that there is a gap in my work history. I did leave my last position January 2, 2013. I had worked at ENT thirteen years and had every intention of staying where I was and retiring when my doctor retired. However, I began having health problems related to stress at home and work and, I'll just say it, maybe turning fifty, I did what I felt I had to do. I took some time off to get myself back to me. I've enjoyed my time off but now I need to get back to work. My intentions are to work from home and maybe even part-time. I've kept my nursing license active and a job working from home would be a God send.
Communication skills. Ability to decipher what patient is trying to communicate and ability to assist patient in understanding medical terms and directions. I have strong medical terminology knowledge and the ability to quickly search for what I do not know.
Thirteen years triaging patient telephone calls. Quickly assessing complaints and determine what action should be taken as per protocol.
I was trained to work with computerized patient charts. I have good research skills on the Internet. I'm a good typist and have experience in transcription. I work well on my own.
