Accomplished a "zero" hospital associated infection rate for unit, as well as "zero" nurse turnover for a year. Managed multiple critical care units, including CVICU, MSICU, PCU and TICU. Provided educational opportunities so nurses could practice with high level of success. Monitored and helped maintain continuing education audits . Participated in Joint Commission surveys to help maintain hospital accreditation. Maintained rapport with both staff and providers in order to promote feedback that would contribute to high staff morale and safe patient care. Participated in hiring and onboarding of new hires. Provided critical care to patients in the CVICU and general ICU population; additionally for post-operative patients of robotic lung surgery, which was pioneered in that area at the specific time. Provided post-operative care for the first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) at the hospital. Participated in multidisciplinary rounding of assigned patients and provided important feedback on patient status, in order to discuss, evaluate and plan highest quality of care. Assisted with development of rounding form to be utilized when rounding with cardiothoracic providers to set a standard of high quality communication between provider and bedside nurse, to increase patient safety and staff morale. During time of bedside practice, awarded with Employee of the Month, and unit was awarded with the prestigious "Unit of Distinction" award by Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), which designates the unit as performing in the top 5% (out of all HCA hospitals) in the country.
Started nursing career in Progressive Care Unit, where I obtained an excellent foundation of nursing skills for patients transitioning from critical care to general medical /surgical care. Promoted to charge nurse role within first year and managed flow of patient care through bed management and assignment delegation. Rounded with Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon daily on all post-operative care patients, assisting with advocation of both bedside nurse and patient through expert communication and feedback. Promoted to Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit after 5 years where I obtained both ICU and CVICU nursing skills, including but not limited to open heart surgery recovery, multiple vascular repair and general surgery post operative care, oxygen support and ventilator management, vasoactive drip titration, and blood product administration.
