The goals I wanted to accomplish by running for the title of Mrs. Oklahoma were:
Meeting new people and connecting with my new community. ( I had recently moved to Tulsa from Lawton and thought this may be a fun way to meet some great ladies.)
I wanted to make a difference in the community. My platform was, "Being an Advocate for Children," which went along with the career path I had chosen, School Counselor.
I wanted my 4 children to see that, with hard work and determination , you can accomplish anything you want at any age.
I accomplished working hard to get into pageant shape at 39 and after 4 children.
I was determined to not give up after earning 2nd place the first time I competed. I came back the next year and won.
I did meet some amazing ladies, some of which I am still good friends with to this day.
The title offered me many opportunities to go in to schools, churches, day care centers, etc... to be the advocate for children that I thought so many children needed. I had seen so many children, as a counselor, that were bullied by other children and abused by parents. I wanted to speak for them, outside of the school setting.
I was blessed to have been given that opportunity.
