Quality Assurance Support Engineer II, 01/2020 - Current
Asea Pleasant Grove, UT,
  • Owner of vehicle transportation to in house customer location and final integration into flight operations
  • Conducted serial number and non-conformance audits
  • Responsible for fuselage sub assembly, wire harness routing, electrical check outs, hardware installation, wing installation, motor installation, propeller installation, camera installation and final inspections of vehicle fabrication.
  • Combine all in process and final inspection requirements from 15+ work instructions into one sole document for quality fuselage final inspection.
  • Consolidated all vehicle assembly documentation into easy to navigate directory per aircraft section.
  • Established quality inspection area for Vehicle Assembly. Responsible for tool requirements and procurement.
  • Developed quality work instruction (WIQI) for carbon fiber wing inspections, fuselage honeycomb installation, cure data validation and in-process fabrication procedures.
  • Collaborated with Design and Quality Engineering teams with root cause analysis of composite manufacturing defects, provided re-work methods, tooling modifications, tool development, weight reduction and process changes to mitigate non-conformance
  • Completed class room portion non-destructive testing (NDT) Ultrasound Testing (UT) Level 1 and Level 2
  • Trained five Quality Technicians on composite inspection methods, production non-conformance reporting (PNCR), engineering change requests (ECR), work order system, procurement system and 3D model navigation
  • Established work station for composite inspection and procured required tooling for visual inspection and non-destructive testing for composite structures
  • Collaborated with developers and project managers to assess program capabilities, features and testing demands.
Support Engineer II Research and Development , 01/2019 - 01/2020
Amazon Prime Air City, STATE,
  • Established Prime Air’s first official composite production shop. Coordinated and established vendor relationships to enable tooling and fabrication requirements to meet composite production alpha launch
  • Provided detailed tooling break per area, shop consumables requirements, composite raw materials used per aircraft and received in-coming composite fabrication fixtures from third-party vendors valued over $1.5M
  • Brief and executed action plans to drive production in six areas of composite manufacturing, kitting, layup, secondary bonding, oven operations, trimming and quality assurance. Developed twelve technician workstations for composite fabrications following 5’s philosophy and lean manufacturing organization goals
  • Conducted on-site and over phone interviews for permanent and temporary Composite Support Engineer personnel required for production facility. Trained all incoming Support Engineers on fabrication process and work order system
  • Developed composite cure cycle for composite primary and sub-assemblies. Conducted thermal mapping, programming, sample testing, and detailed report to management and engineering team
  • Complete 39 First Article Testing (FAI) procedures for composite assemblies including quality assurance in-process inspections. Trained, lead and mentored ten Support Engineers to complete tasks
  • Project owner for fuselage secondary bonding operations for Prime Air drone program. Developed workstation, required tooling list and consumables procurement to start fuselage bonding in R&D and production
  • Provided step by step detailed written and photographed work instructions for secondary fuselage bonding operations for production assembly. Work instructions including bond preparation standards, location methods, and proper installation of 200 plus carbon fiber, steel, and aluminum secondary components
  • Recorded and conducted weight analysis, time trials, root cause analysis, and production non-conformance reports. Implemented quality assurance in-process work inspections for bond prep, package door delivery system testing, adhesive applications and proper location of secondary carbon fiber components
  • Collaborated with design engineering team to implement drill jigs, location aids, shims, and alignment tooling into production process
  • Submitted documentation of structural conflicts by navigating 3D model. Faults included nutplates contacting carbon fiber, carbon fiber contacting aluminum structures and improper adhesive squeeze out due to tight tolerances. This resulted in approved engineering change request for fuselage and secondary component redesign. Changes improved trimming process by eliminating excess alterations to carbon fiber parts and providing quality bond lines for nutplate, extruded aluminum and carbon fiber secondary components
  • Provided engineering with primary and alternate aerospace-grade adhesives to replace current industrial paste adhesives. After engineering approval reduced insert installation by half using aero grading potting compound in pneumatic applicator, increasing higher quality product while keeping in line with organizations weight reduction goals
  • Conducted time study after tooling design, adhesive changes, application improvements, and accepted structural redesign. Cutting processing time in half from two technicians and five day work week to one technician and four-day process
  • Trained four Support Engineer's to conduct fuselage secondary bonding process, composite re-work, pre-preg layup, non-conformance reports, engineering change request, procurement, weight data collection and navigation of 3D modeling software
