As a Development Office Clerk my daily duties started by picking up the mail from the Hollidaysburg Post Office and delivering to St Bernardines. I worked in the Mailroom in the morning opening mail, counting cash, batching gift orders, and data entry.
After the gifts were entered into the data entry system, they were processed and printed out for mailing at the end of the day. All mail was folded and delivered to the Post Office.
I assisted the Mission Director in setting up the Mission co-op program at the beginning of every new year. Phone calls had to be made to the Directors of the Diocese that the Mission Appeal was to be presented, to arrange time and date for the appeals. Once the Appeal was made, a follow-up thank you was mailed and all moneys turned into Mission Office.
Coordinated a quarterly mailing of about 15,000 appeal letters to be printed, folded, stuffed into envelopes and run through postage machine.
Started in the Data Entry department entering all Pattern orders that came in by mail and from the pickers from the floor. Was promoted to Office Services where I worked with the Butterick Pattern Magazine and Vogue Magazine orders. Entered them in the Data Entry system. Arranged to have all invoices boxed and ready for pickup by Microfilm Company.
I then applied and was promoted to the Shipping Department. I sorted all invoices for the picking line by store name and sent them down for the pickers to place the orders in boxes for shipment. All orders had to be picked by a certain set of colored lights and I had to see and set those lights by computer so the correct order was picked and packed.
I worked there until Butterick Patterns went out of business.
