I was initially hired into this role to help out our engineering team with designing custom products for all of our customers, on a as need basis. When I was not helping them design products, I was tasked with creating Bill of Materials for projects that we had been awarded. This was a new concept for me, but thankfully it was all done in Microsoft Excel, which I am all self-taught on and love working with. I would review customer approved drawings and create a list of all the various components that were needed to build the product. Once I was finished with this list, I would work alongside our purchasing team and help get all of the items on my list ordered. By working alongside these other departments, I was able to learn more about the internal structure of the company, my teamwork skills continued to improve and so did my communication skills. Over the years, my workload has been adjusted and is now more complex than it was in the beginning. I still sometimes help create those Bills of Materials, but now my primary role is to work on procuring new projects for us to bid on. I work alongside many different general contractors and once I have a lead on a new project that fits into our wheelhouse, I gain a copy of the blueprints and perform a takeoff for all of the cabinets, casework, countertops, and millwork. I created a master spreadsheet in Excel to where I can plug in each project's unique information and all of these measurements and this results in a bid package that I can send off to my manager for pricing. Once he has the pricing listed out, I put all of this information into the bid package and create a PDF package that I submit to the general contractor. When they have questions about our bid, I am the one with whom they interact with and I get them an answer to any questions or concerns they may have. This type of work has really helped me improve my people skills and my organizational skills.

When I am not working on a new project's bid package, I design new marketing materials for us to use on social media and other forms of communication. I redesigned the company website and have designed all of our brochures and other marketing materials, all while being self taught in the various software that I use. This work has allowed me to be creative and develop new sets of skills and improve upon the ones I already have. With all of the marketing work that I have done, I have helped bring this small business into the global marketplace and become real competition for some of the largest companies that are in the same line of work as we are.
