Experienced Flight RN, CFRN, EMT with 8 years of high-quality critical care and emergency nursing experience, including in-depth knowledge of mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring. Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of critical patient to appropriate facility. Supports mission and goals of air medical services operation to promote safety as highest priority throughout transport continuum.
As a Flight Nurse I am a member of an aeromedical flight crew responsible for advanced emergency and critical care patient management during air and ground transport of the critically ill or injured patient from the scene or outlying sites to participating secondary and tertiary care institutions. Provide patient care incorporating assessment, stabilization, and intervention techniques, and advanced surgical skill procedures to critically ill and injured patients that include neonates through geriatric age groups consistent with evidence-based standards, and clinical protocols. This includes the management of high-risk obstetrical, medical, surgical, neurological, respiratory and cardiovascular patients. It is the expectation to execute independent judgment in order to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols. Ability to assess, organize, and implement provisions necessary for mass-casualty events. Provide a culture of safety in HEMS operations in compliance with FAA regulation including shift crew briefings and post-flight debriefings, maintaining knowledge of aviation operations, aeronautical communications and radio operations, weather safety and aircraft operations and limitations, NVG (night vision goggles) certifications and flight operations. Survival education, training, and preparedness.
Emergency department experience involves the triage of patients presenting to the Emergency department, providing initial assessment and emergent, life-saving interventions such as treatment of traumatic injury, providing ACLS, and neonatal resuscitation. Supplying ED physician with recommendations and coordinating with physician to initiate patient treatment including medication administration utilizing standing orders and protocols necessary related to patient presentation and clinical impressions obtained by the nurses’ and physicians’ evaluation. Continued reassessment of patients’ response to interventions, identify issues, explore alternatives, and deploy solutions. Provide patient education of current condition, treatment plan, recovery process, and expectations.
ICU critical care and med/surg consisting of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans in consultation with healthcare professionals. Evaluating medical information, as well as providing direct and individualized bedside nursing care to medical, critical care, and pre/post-surgery patients. Preparing, administering and recording prescribed medications.
Collaborating on discharge planning with the healthcare team. Answering questions and educating patients and their families on surgical procedures and post-surgery care. Maintaining and updating patient files, medical charts, and health records. Adhering to best nursing practices, standards, and protocols.
