Manage the overall daily operations of the manufacturing side of the facility as well as the performance and activities of the Production Supervisors. Second titled promotion with this organization since coming on in June of 2015.
Daily reporting of manufacturing operations to the Plant Manager, assisting the Production Planner in priority scheduling of line activities to achieve required customer needs. Manage and order needed spare parts and materials for production machinery and finished goods shipping needs. Maintain inventories to ensure continual machine operations in 24/7 production demands. Manage 100+ hourly employees including performing general human resource and personnel management activities. Schedule overtime needs and manage manning levels to achieve effective daily throughput levels.
Under my leadership we have experienced the following over the past year:
Started LaPorte, IN plant in the Management Trainee Program, June of 2015 and elevated to supervisor from the program just 3 months later in August of 2015.
Transferred to Burlington, IA to newly constructed facility March of 2016. Directed and oversaw activities of up to 40 hourly employees in a 12-hour shift.
Oversaw all, daily, manufacturing operations including presses, can-formers, can washers, flanging and beading equipment, and inside spray operations for production of steel food cans. Assigned skilled labor to machine operations, monitored and reported on equipment performances through digital communications and in-house reporting. Addressed needs of equipment repairs – reported repair details to upper management, accounted for materials usage and contacted purchasing/inventory staff for required parts ordering. Transmitted daily performance reports to upper management detailing line and equipment performances, production totals, downtime accountability, and any repair details. Monitored production quality - isolate, label, and reported defective/held production per company SOPs.
Analyzed, scheduled, and monitored the daily operations for CNC machine shop orders through all areas of operations. Assigned machinists to their daily tasks. Daily monitoring of Made2Manage order/demand needs for necessary adjustments to schedule and tasking. Assisted in machining operations whenever necessary to meet customer demand and employee coverage needs. Supervised operations and order flow for industrial assembly operations where customer parts are assembled and prepared for shipping.
Handled employee administrative issues including vacation scheduling, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions. Assisted in recruitment and interviewing of potential employees.
Elevated to the role of Plant Manager after 8 years of varying roles and responsibilities in the organization. Responsible for scheduling of daily manufacturing operations; including distribution of manpower, raw materials preparation, inbound and outbound bulk shipment operations, posting of finished orders to inventory. Communicated with all areas of operations from order initiation through to distribution availability. Reported daily activities to executive management and followed-up on customer expedited requirements. Performance evaluations of manufacturing staff, including assurance of company policy adherence. Monitored adherence to company safety policies. Assisted in any elements of daily operations where needed to achieve customer needs.
This experience was put chiefly to the test when coming to the Burlington, IA facility that was not even actively operational yet. There were numerous elements of the facility that required developing both from personnel to operations activities. This required extensive managing of resources and time to achieve daily targets in order to meet necessary operational dates. This was in coordination with the entire management and supervisory staff, in addition to maintaining continual communications with the engineering and facility project manager. All the while trying to become acclimated to a new town, new plant, and top-the-line technologies that were completely different from where I had just been stationed. A tremendous challenge, and a great opportunity that headed me toward where I am today.
