Gloria Claire, RN, is currently a Patient Safety Quality Improvement Coordinator and is a dynamic team member of the Coordinator Coordination of Care and Medication Safety and Adverse Drug Event Prevention task under the direction of Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS)11th Scope of Work.
She provides knowledge of rapid cycle Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) and other continuous quality improvement (QI) techniques, and she assists in developing educational tools for a broad range of improvement projects.
She served as lead for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) 10th Scope of Work (10SOW) Adverse Drug Event initiative collaborating with multiple health settings and multidisciplinary teams focusing on process improvement for medication management and reduction of adverse drug events related to anticoagulants and antipsychotic medications.
Her previous QI tasks in the 9SOW focused on pressure ulcer reduction, systems improvement, and organizational culture change. She achieved deliverable goals and objectives by instituting new processes and standards for coordination of patient care across the continuum. She developed, evaluated, and disseminated information relating to collaborative QI activities for Medicare beneficiaries.
Ms. Claire also served as a Nurse Review Coordinator for Medicare Beneficiary and Family Centered Care conducting the appeal process and consultation for beneficiaries and/or their representatives and providers in all settings. She applied InterQual® criteria and her clinical knowledge to screen cases for medical necessity of admission, appropriate use of services, and readiness for discharge. In her other positions at MPRO, Ms. Claire developed project plans and identified goals, strategies, and mitigated barriers and risks.
