I am delighted to provide a reference in support of Brittany Cooke.Aside from being a very pleasant and hard working young lady, the help my wife and I have received over the past three years in particular is the only reason we are able to continue to live in the county. My wife has had breast cancer and then her left lung removed because of cancer in March 2014. Here is where she wanted to remain and so here she was able to stay.
However I am a retired US Army Special Forces Colonel, 32 years active and reserve. I have injuries to every bone in my body, Veterans Administration disability rating of 80% (total disability although individual ratings of 140%) including a semi working left shoulder replacement, an inoperable right wrist, and a right hip replacement on hold since my wife's problems emerged. My only regret from this service is that when my wife needed me I was incapable of taking care of here; leading to occasions when my wife had fallen, I attempted to help her up and my shoulder is just not working so I simply would give up and call Brittany.
I also must note that I would not trust my wife's care with anyone that was not outstanding and asked a number of “caregivers” to get out of our house after they failed to take care of my wife appropriately. Mt wife received absolutely outstanding care from Brittany and when my time comes I would hope for the same treatment and to be able die in our bedroom as my wife was able to do.
We have known Brittany since we finally moved to the county in 2005. We had purchased our land in 1989, planned to move here in 2002, but after 9/11 I was fortunate enough to be recalled to active duty, serving with the Counterterrorism Division of the FBI and then the Department of Homeland Security when DHS stood up. My wife and I have had numerous conversations with her concerning her desire to return to work as a CNA and advance in the nursing profession, particularly as a her son and daughter get older. She is a single mother, was able to leave a very difficult relationship, is employed, and getting where she and her children need to be.
I am also a Professor of Marketing at George Mason University and have encountered thousands of students and were Brittany interested in obtaining a Nursing degree at George Mason University I would be delighted to recommend her for the program she was interested in.
Finally I have been in and out of physical therapy for 40 years following a series of very serious parachuting accidents in 1971, 1977, and 1978. I was injured in Iraq in 2006 with the 4th Infantry Division and been in medical hold for treatment at times for more than one year. I was not the person that was fit to care for his wife without help. Brittany has been that support for us.
