As a nurse with 15 years of experience, I have been fortunate to work in a number of different areas of nursing. I began working per diem as a substitute RN for grades pre-k -12 at Madison Central School. Although I enjoyed working with children of all ages, I desired more excitement. I then applied and started working part-time on a Medical/Surgical floor. I still wanted to increase my skill level so I started taking critical care classes and became Critical Care Certified. I then was offered a position recovering patients after endoscopic procedures. I always had my eye on getting to the OR or Recovery Room. I was offered a position in Post Anesthesia Care Unit and quickly began taking emergency call. I truly loved this job but often times the census would be low and staff would be called to remain home. I began looking for a salaried position and was hired as a Nurse II at a medium security prison RMU (residential medical unit). On March 15,2013. On this same day my life was changed. I was actually in a car accident that morning on my way to work at Rome Hospital. After a brief recovery period because of the accident, I did take the Nurse II position. I worked at the prison until it became necessary for me to go for neck surgery. I have since been out of work recovering from numerous surgeries. After reading about this position, I knew it was the job for me!
