As a motor transport operator (88M) for 24 plus months, I am primarily responsible for supervising or operating wheel vehicles to transport personnel and cargo. As an 88M in the Kansas Army National Guard (KSARNG) we are the backbone of the Army's support and sustainment structure, providing advanced mobility on and off the battlefield. I assist and support state and Fedreal National Guard operations, training, readiness missions, natural disasters and homeland defense. In addition I support and assist in untits mobilizations and demobilizations.

As a key BN in the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team we coordinated and completed turn-in operations for the Army Prepositioned Stock-5 ABCT equipment this included joint inventories, joint technical inspections, and field maintenance -- taking place at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. 2-137 CAB/Distro Plt assisted in the successful return of more than 250 pieces of equipment to APS-5 facilities after nine months of use by the 155th ABCT and the 2-137 CAB in support of Operation Spartan Shield. This was an organized and combined effort and responsibility of our BN. As a qualified Hazardous Materials Shipping Specialist in a deployed enviroment I assisted and ensured the preparation of Transportation Discrepancy Reports (TDR) and other documents in support of government claims against carriers for freight loss and damage or failure to provide contracted services. I assisted in handling and organizing, maintaining all transportation related automated systems and databases to support the Traffic Management Programs for the turn in. I assisted the reconciles commercial bills of lading to verify receipt and shipment of equipment and supplies. In addition, I assisted in making recommendations for changes in local and unit level policies and procedures to support the economical movement of contractually procured materials from vendors. It was my responsibility to understand interprets and enforces Federal, State, and local regulations concerning the movement of hazardous materials and general commodities through various modes of carriage. I assisted monitored and ensured proper handling, packaging, and shipping of arms, ammunition and explosives (AA&E), Controlled Cryptographic Items (CCI), and classified/sensitive items. I tracked the safeguards of accountable transportation documents, which included: Government Bills of Lading, Government Transportation Requests, and Uniform Service Meal Tickets. As a qualified 88M with more than 10 years I assisted and provided insite for inspections of, commercial carrier terminals to locate and expedite delivery of government shipments. I assisted and ensured the carriers capability to comply with government requirements and specifications. I assisted and managed the Carrier Performance Program for the BN's turn-in and provided input to the Traffic Manager for the overall APS-5 turn in program.
As an qualified 88M for over 10 years, I was given the opportunity assist in logisitics and transportation coordination of three national level exercise in a deployed enviroment. I assised and served as the technical transportation advisor for the BN operating officials on matters dealing with commercial movement of personnel and equipment. As a qualified hazmat specialist, I assisted analyzed and advised on transportation considerations relative to the domestic and international movement of equipment, supplies, and personnel via all commercial transportation modes. During Iron Union , a joint military exercise between the ground forces of the UAE and the United States, commenced, spanning three weeks. Iron Union was a two sided part joint military cooperation to enhance combat and tactical capabilities during these two exercises, I assisted in the development, and training requirements of commercial traffic functions. Mobilization plans, as well as training programs for unit managers and mobilization augmentees on related transportation subjects.
