My duties included all aspects of individual and family mental health therapy including conducting initial intake interviews and evaluating for substance abuse, seeing clients weekly for individual and family counseling sessions, completing all requisite paperwork including SOAP notes for each session and insurance billing documents, and finally organizing and facilitating discharge of clients post treatment.  In addition I assisted clients as a case worker and in this capacity was responsible for organizing doctor visits, monitoring medication, and helping clients apply for a variety of housing, food, income assistance, and other social support programs.

In my capacity as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor at Taos Colfax Community services, I provided fully comprehensive services to clients with a wide variety of mental health diagnoses and substance abuse issues. I was responsible for conducting an initial intake interview and assessment with each potential client, and creating a full treatment plan directing them to appropriate clinical interventions and services matching each individual clients need. I then provided individual and family therapy session, often weekly or bi-weekly depending the on the severity of the diagnosis. I was also available on call for any crisis situations that emerged during the therapeutic process. I referred clients with substance abuse issue to proper support groups and individual substance abuse therapy, and often helped facilitate these sessions. I consulted with the agency psychiatrist often on each client and was responsible for monitoring their medications and any behavioral or emotional changes associated with medication management. In addition I provided case management, helping clients apply for other forms of community aid, such as food stamps, public housing, and financial assistance, SSDI, and other social support programs. I was also responsible for creating discharge plans to effect a smooth transition for the clients back into the community post treatment. As TCCS is a low-income community mental health center in a rural portion of an extremely impoverished New Mexico town, I was fortunate to work with clients with full range of ethnicities, cultural identities, and socioeconomic conditions. I also worked in the public High School as a community mental health therapist for 1-2 days a week, providing behavioral mental health services, mediating conflicts within families to clarify and resolve underlying issues, and working with teachers and school administrators to address behavioral problems or student mental health issues. Finally, I organized an ongoing weekly behavioral and relational therapy group designed to teach functional living skills and address behavioral issues for men 16-50 diagnosed with severe schizophrenia.

EMDR was the primary modality utilized for addressing deep seated psychological issues in this population, specifically focused on alleviating panic attacks, resolving PTSD symptoms, and addressing personal traumas. ACC also offered weekly support groups for clients to provide a sense of community and continuity, focused on individual life skill development (such as grocery shopping, paying bills, etc) within a therapeutic group context.
