Effectively supervise lifeguard programs to ensure required certifications and training requirements are current in accordance with program standards to provide manpower for beach operations, Adventure programs and large functions. Controls and monitors the flow of work. Coordinates and sets work performance standards of subordinates. Assists in the supervision and management of Bellows Outdoor Recreation, including Turtle Cove, Mini Golf, Driving Range, Campsites, Pavilions and Camper Cabins. Ensure EEO policies and required training is completed as directed. Manage assigned equipment/resources to include proper care, safeguarding, inspection and inventory documentation in accordance with AF programs standards. Responsible for daily activities, and proper handling of the Rescue crafts and all terrain vehicles. Coordinates and assist in the preparation of budget recommendations such as first aid supply, jet skis, all terrain vehicles, training exercises, uniforms. Effectively schedule staff in accordance with budget and work load. Performs required personnel management duties involving attendance, leave administration, training, discipline, beach reports, and resolution of minor complaints. Informs the chain of command and acts as liaison for emergencies in house or with outside agencies.
Responds to alarms, drives and operates equipment and related apparatus and assists in The suppression of fires, including rescue, advancing lines, entry, ventilation and salvage work, extrication and emergency medical care of victims.
Performs cleanup and overhaul work, establishes temporary utility services.
Assists in maintaining and repairing fire apparatus and equipment, and cleaning fire stations and grounds.
Checks fire hydrant flows.
Makes fire code inspections of business establishments and prepares pre-fire plans.
Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls, pumps out basements, inspects for gas leaks, secures vehicle accidents, inspects chimneys, etc.
Participates in continuing training and instruction programs by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes.
Conducts station tours for the public, school, and community demonstrations and programs.
Backs up for dispatching personnel, monitors alarm boards, receives and transmits radio and telephone messages.

patrols the beach and ocean areas from an assigned lifeguard tower, patrol vehicle or vessel and performs rescue and accident prevention activities at the beach in an open water environment. Beach Lifeguards provide technical direction to lifeguard trainees in an assigned beach area and may be assigned to perform special division activities, such as dispatching, office coordinator, boat operator/deckhand and instructing in lifeguarding techniques. Employees educate and instruct the public on beach, water and other public safety matters.
Work is performed in accordance with City and departmental rules, policies and procedures, and requires knowledge of life safety practices at the beach and in an open water environment, basic life support and public relations principles and practices. Recruitment is based on the possession of swimming skills and the ability to perform water rescues and provide first responder emergency medical care. exercises reasonable initiative and independent judgment in performing work assignments and is exposed to hazardous conditions and potential life-threatening situations when performing rescues. Specific assignments are established by a supervisor to ensure that lifeguards are alert at all times and that assigned tasks are performed according to instructions. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Beach Patrol Lieutenant.
