As a Correctional Supervisor my duties include the following:


  • Conducting audits of the Correctional Services Department ensuring all areas of concern are in compliance with National Policy and ACA guidelines.

  • As the Administrative Lieutenant I was responsible for scheduling 250 Correctional Officers each week. Additionally I was the office manager for the Correctional Services department. I ensured the Captains Office was in compliance with all national and ACA guidelines. I was responsible for preparing the Correctional Services Department for Program Review and I also coordinated all staff evaluations. Very strong computer skills to include Word, Word Perfect, ADOBE, Tru-Net, SENTRY, Digital Photography and editing software and other computer applications utilized by the Department of Justice.

  • Monitoring the well-being and safety of all staff and inmates assigned to my shift. Touring all areas of the facility and documenting the results of my tour to executive staff. Noting any problem areas and correcting these problems at my level.

  • Monitoring inmate program activity within the facility. Ensuring that all inmates are adhering to rules and regulations established by the agency.

  • I ensure that all staff assigned to my shift are aware of all emergency plans in the event of an institutional disturbance or other threats to the safety and security of the facility.

  • I have worked closely with both Unit Management and the Inmate Systems Management Department. I have processed inmates into the facility after hours to include interviewing the inmates and completing all required SENTRY work. I have a very strong work ethic and I work very closely with all departments in a positive communication model to ensure the goals of the facility and agency are met.

  • As a Correctional Supervisor my Accomplishments are as follows:

  • As recently as August 2012 I was the on scene commander of a major institutional disturbance within the facility. Two rival Hispanic gangs engaged in a major riot on the institution recreation yard. I responded to the incident with less than lethal munitions. Once the recreation yard was secured I ordered a controlled recall of all inmates to return to their housing units. Once secure all inmates and staff were accounted for. For my actions I received a Special Act Award.

  • While assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution in Memphis Tennessee I served as a GS 11 Lieutenant. Although I carried out the normal duties that a GS 11 Lieutenant would, I was primarily tasked by the Captain and Executive Staff to concentrate on the institutions Emergency Preparedness Program. I was assigned as the institution SORT Commander. This position carried many responsibilities. I was responsible for providing tactical coverage for both FCC Forrest City Arkansas and FCC Yazoo City Mississippi. I was responsible for managing a team of approximately 25 staff members and thousands of dollars of very precise and technical equipment. I ensured that all equipment was accounted for at the beginning and end of each training session. I installed a very efficient system of accountability and the Team never lost an item due to negligence or theft.

  • Additionally I wrote and distributed new Emergency Contingency Plans and I ensured all staff in the facility read the plans and signed the signature sheets indicating that they both read and understood the intent of the plans.

  • I worked closely with outside law enforcement agencies to include the Memphis Police Department Tactical Operation Teams and the Shelby County Fire Department and Sheriff Department. I executed complex emergency training plans and cross trained with outside law enforcement agencies in an effort to support their mission and in turn they would support the Bureau mission in the event of an emergency.

  • I worked closely with the Psychology Department and Hostage Negotiation Teams and conducted cross training with these teams so that they would be aware of the tactical mission and we would be aware of the negotiation mission. I audited the Emergency Response Program on a weekly/monthly basis ensuring the Tactical Operation Center was constantly updated and that the Hostage Negotiation Center had all required supplies and equipment.

  • I recruited potential SORT members and trained them in a very proficient manner to execute the tactical mission of the agency.
Lieutenant08/1997 to 09/2003Paragon SystemsParsons , WV

As a newly assigned GS 9/11 Lieutenant with the Federal Bureau of Prisons I was responsible for the following;


  • I was responsible for conducting audits of the Correctional Services Department to include Lock shop operations, external and internal security operations, Administrative Operations, and ensuring all areas of the department were ready for Program Review. The facility received a superior rating.

  • I worked very closely with the Case Management Coordinator and the R/D Manager and assisted in processing inmates in and out of the facility each day/night. I conducted armed escort duties transporting inmates to and from various geographical locations throughout California and the United Sates via aircraft, bus, and van. I processed inmates in and out of the complex after hours when no R/D staff was in the facility. I ensured the inmates were properly interviewed and screened with the PP64 Processing Form. I ensured the inmates were screened by medical, unit team and SIS. I ensured the inmates were not allowed to enter the general population until all proper records, Central Files, J/C, and PSI, were received by the receiving facility.

  • As an SIS Lieutenant I interacted very closely with all departments and executive staff. I worked very closely with the Case Management Coordinator and the ISM Manger. I conducted very detailed investigations into both staff and inmate cases. I worked very closely with outside law enforcement agencies to include the FBI, DEA, United States Marshall Service, Secret Service, and the United Sates Attorneys Office. I assisted in providing evidence to the AUSA Office in ongoing criminal court cases. I conducted exhaustive investigations into inmate suicides, assaults, fights and I closely monitored inmate gang activity within the facility.

  • While at FCC Lompoc I served as Acting Captain for several weeks until the newly assigned Captain arrived for duty. During this time I worked very closely with all departments in the facility ensuring that the daily goals of the agency were met. I monitored all aspects of the facility and served as faithful subordinate to the Warden constantly updating him in regards to security concerns within the institution and ensuring that I carried out all duties as expected. I insured that the department was operating in a proficient manner and that all staff members within the department were accomplishing the security mission of the agency each and every day. I studied local and national policy and I ensured all local policies and procedures adhered to national policy. I acted as a security consultant to all departments and always acted in a professional manner. I was recognized as having very positive and strong communication skills and received numerous awards and accolades for my hard work to include Supervisor of the Quarter and Supervisor of the Year.
Senior Officer Specialist09/1995 to 08/1997Walworth County Judicial CenterElkhorn , WI
  • As a Control Center Officer I was responsible for monitoring all security features and devices within the facility. I operated the SENTRY computer system and prepared the facility for the daily and nightly counts. I ensured all staff conducted their watch calls and I checked all radio body alarms prior to the beginning of the shift. During emergency situations I would direct staff via the radio system to the incident area. I worked closely with the Receiving and Discharge department in monitoring inmate movement in and out of the facility and ensuring all inmate moves were updated in SENTRY ensuring an accurate base count at all times.

  • I was assigned to the Special Housing Unit were I performed the following tasks. I interacted with what can be described as some of the most dangerous and notorious inmates in the Federal Prison System. I did so with professionalism and I carried out my duties with minimal supervision and I always worked to solve problems at the lowest level possible. I worked very hard at communicating with both staff and inmates in a positive manner in an effort to reduce tension within the facility and accomplish the goals of the agency. I assisted the SHU Lieutenants in preparing the SHU and the facility for Program Review and it should be noted the facility received a superior rating with no deficiencies discovered in the Special Housing Unit.

  • I tried out for and was accepted as a member of the FCC Florence SORT Team. The SORT Team was tasked with training for and conducting tactical operations within the FCC Complex and inter regional tactical operations and training. I conducted very high risk inmate escort trips including mass movement operations as inmates from USP Marion flowed into the ADX for initial activation. As a member of the SORT Team I built a strong foundation for tactics and leadership that I would utilize as a future SORT Leader and Lieutenant
