I am a senior attorney admitted in NSW, Australia. I have both managerial and legal operations experience. I have worked at a top tier Australian law firm and as a trial advocate, and as an attorney for the NSW Government. I have also worked part time as a lecturer in law at two separate law schools in NSW where I taught first year and third year law students. I have over 20 years experience in the law and in legal writing. During my career I have presented papers to fellow attorneys and members of the public on various topics ranging from legal compliance, contract administration for architects and Internet tools available to lawyers.
Since moving to San Francisco in 2013, I have also obtained employment as both a copy editor for a leading academic at the University of Cambridge and as a project manager for a small Silicon Valley start-up.
My legal experience, interpersonal skills, and sense of humor are the foundations of what I like to call optimistic leadership.
Trial advocates in Australia are independent of law firms. Only 200 women were trial advocates (barristers) when I was admitted to the bar in 1999.
My areas of expertise were-
Consumer protection, regulation and compliance, public law, building and construction law and contract law.
I have over 10 years advocacy experience and I appeared as advocate in over 100 matters, and settled over 95% of the litigation I was briefed in. I am a trained mediator and I use these skills to procure the best outcome for my clients.
During trial preparation I was responsible for all document management, task tracking and communication with my instructing solicitors, as well as making all strategic decisions regarding the preparation of evidence, drafting legal submissions, doing legal research and then acting as advocate.I have conducted every aspect of trial work; preparing opening remarks, conducting examinations in chief and cross examining both lay and expert witnesses, preparing exhibits and arguing points of evidence on voir dire. I have researched and drafted closing submissions both at the close of a trial and for matters on appeal.
As part of my role I was responsible for all budget tracking and billing, including dealing with third parties relating to outstanding accounts.
I appeared in significant matters in the Supreme Court of NSW, the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia. During my time as a trial advocate I also wrote and delivered various papers to attorneys and non attorneys on varying topics. I have extensive public speaking experience apart from my experience as an advocate.
