My earnings are used to pay my high school books and fees, the remainder will be used for college savings Sep 14 - Present Volunteer Service Youth Docent and MLK Jr Legacy Fellow Cincinnati, Ohio National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Grades 9,10,11,12 4 Hours/Week Total Hours: 160 I was selected to participate in a multi-year internship program provided to chosen students with the opportunity to share their knowledge of the history of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio as well as present-day slavery and freedom issues with visitors to the center. I trained with NURFC staff and adult docents to serve as a volunteer in the museum's permanent exhibits as well as in my community to engage in and promote the Museum's values of cooperation, courage, perseverance and quest for freedom. I have devoted over 160 hours to this volunteer activity for the past four year. Aug 17 - Aug 17 Information Booth Ambassador Mason, Ohio Western and Southern Emirates Airline US Open Series Grade 12 20 Hours/Week Total Hours: 40 I was promoted to the position as Information Booth Ambassador, serving as the first point of contact to thousands of tournament patrons, helping to answer their questions and provide guidance, maps, ticketing, seating and other guest information as requested. Received "Above and Beyond" Gold Ball Pin award for outstanding service. I also received the "Five Year Pin" for recognition of my five years of volunteer service. I devoted over 40 hours to this volunteer activity this year. Jan 16 - Jan 16 "Kin Killin' Kin" Youth Think Tank Cincinnati, Ohio Queen City Foundation Grade 11 20 Hours/Week Total Hours: 20 As a youth panelist I helped to create and facilitate a presentation and community discussion about youth violence in my greater community. I worked with volunteers from other area schools and mentors at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center to recruit local students to present their talents through visual and performing arts. We collaborated with artist James Pate and presented his "Kin Killin' Kin" artistic series which depicted scenes of youth violence and their victims from recent tragedies. During the discussion and presentation, we celebrated the talented students and demonstrated through statistical analysis the need to reduce violence. Parents and teens from the Cincinnati community attended our presentation and together we examined different solutions to help reduce teenager violence. This activity of earnest and diverse dialogue helped me gain a greater understanding of how young people like myself can be empowered to take a leadership role to find sustainable solutions to help reduce youth violence. I devoted over 20 hours to this volunteer activity. I devoted over 20 hours to this volunteer activity each year. Extracurricular Nov 16 - Present The Free Project Grades 11,12 Activities 5 Hrs/Week Total Hours: 100 The Free Project at Indian Hill High School is the first high school chapter of this national non-profit network of college students fighting to bring an end to slavery worldwide. As Founder and President of the chapter I partnered with Historians Against Slavery to dedicate raising awareness for modern-day slavery at our high school campus. I have also partnered with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio to combat human trafficking in our community. I have devoted over 100 hours to this activity over the past two years. Aug 17 - Present Ohio Attorney General Teen Ambassador Board Grade 12 5 Hrs/Week I was selected to represent my high school in this year-long program to discuss pressing issues facing high school students as well as solutions and ways to implement them with my peers from across Ohio under the guidance of Ohio Attorney General, Mike DeWine and his staff. Aug 14 - Present Indian Hill Literary Magazine Grades 9,10,11,12 2 Hrs/Week As co-editor I helped to select students' visual art and writing pieces submitted for publication in the school's literary magazine. I also attended several creating writing and poetry workshops. Oct 16 - Present National Honors Society Grades 11,12 2 Hrs/Week I am a member of National Honors Society. Aug 14 - Present Latin Club Grades 9,10,11,12 2 Hrs/Week The Indian Hill Latin Club is a chapter of the National Junior Classical League and the Ohio JCL. Activities include the State and National Conventions, local competitions, and other services and fun projects determined by our club officers. Aug 15 - Present Gay/Straight Alliance Grades 10,11,12 2 Hrs/Week Students explore and strengthen the relationship between the schools' gay and straight communities. Aug 14 - Present Vinyl Club Grades 9,10,11,12 2 Hrs/Week Students listen to vinyl records and control music and stereo for home football and basketball games.
