Internal Medicine Physician/Hospitalist, 07/2007 to Current
Legacy Health SystemUnavailable, OR,
  • From the time the patient is admitted to the hospital until they are discharged, I work closely with physician colleagues, family members, nurses and case managers to assure that my patients receive the highest quality, personalized, evidenced-based care.
  • Diagnosed and managed a wide range of conditions accurately by requesting specific, relevant labs and imaging studies and accurately interpreting results.
  • Arranged for referrals to obtain specialized care for patients with a wide range of conditions, both surgical and non-surgical.
  • Provided Internal Medicine consultation for my surgical colleagues including Trauma surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Ob/GYN, ENT, Plastic Surgery and General surgery, among others.
  • Without exception I practice the way that I used to teach my Residents and Medical Students when I was an Attending physician in academic medicine - as if each of my patients was a personal family member. No exceptions.
  • I work very closely with the nursing staff as they are my partners in patient care. I helped pilot a Physician-Nurse rounding collaboration project at our hospital with the nurse manager on the 5 north Medical Unit. I make a point to contact the nurse to round with me on each patient when possible, and I have encouraged my colleagues to do the same.
  • Fluid with both Cerner and Touchworks software to enter orders, coordinate and schedule various medical services and consultations as well as arrange for close outpatient follow up with the primary care physicians.
  • Helped coordinate responses to emerging public health issues such as SARS-COV-2 involving hospital care and managed smooth implementation with colleagues and staff.
Clinical Instructor of Medicine , 09/2004 to 06/2007
Legacy Health SystemEugene, OR,

Served as Attending Physician and Clinical Instructor teaching the Internal Medicine residents and Medical Students. In addition to teaching, I, along with the department chairman and program director interviewed the residency applicants and served on the rank list committee to rank all of the applicants.

Prior to moving to San Diego I was offered the position of Associate Program Director. Because I chose to move to California I opted not to take this position.

Hospitalist , 09/2004 to 06/2007
University Hospitalists At Erlanger Medical CenterCity, STATE,

Although the senior most member of the group served (and did an excellent job) as our Medical Director, I was chosen by the Medical Director and the rest of the group to function in a leadership/administrative manner on behalf of the Hospitalist group. I helped (or independently) designed and implemented policies and procedures for our group as well as for the entire medical staff of the hospital. Additionally, I was responsible for making the schedule for our group and made numerous policies and recommendations that resulted in the betterment of our group. I was asked by the group to thoroughly review and audit our billings and collections company. By doing so, I uncovered multiple areas of concern. This led me to interviewing numerous other billing/collections groups and ultimately we ended up hiring a new agency which resulted in a dramatic improvement in income for each and every physician in our group.

In addition to the administrative duties outlined above I functioned in a clinical capacity to care for a wide range of patients in an open ICU at a large, 930 bed level one trauma center. I cared for patients from admission until discharge and served as Internal medicine consultants for a wide array of subspecialists and surgeons.

Hospitalist, 08/2002 to 09/2004
American Physicians Incorporated (API)City, STATE,

Worked in the Scottsdale and Phoenix communities as an inpatient Internal Medicine Physician (Hospitalist) with privileges at Scottsdale Healthcare Hospital at both Shea and Osborn campuses. As one of the leaders of my group, my roles included admitting and caring for a vast array of patients with a wide spectrum of diseases and conditions. It was an open ICU so I cared for many critically ill, ventilated patients. Hospital Medicine was a brand new field at that time and we were the first Hospital Medicine group ever in Scottsdale. It was challenging to say the least as there was significant resistance to the Hospital Medicine movement from the PCPs and much of the medical community. Yet as one of the leaders of the group I enjoyed the challenge of educating the other physicians (as well as the patients) as to our value to the community and to the entire medical system. What started in 2002 with a lot of hostile resistance, ultimately gave way to sincere gratitude and appreciation for all that we offered to the outpatient docs, subspecialists and most importantly to the patients in the Phoenix and Scottsdale community.

I was promoted to Assistant Medical Director of the Hospitalist group in 2003. Over the next year I implemented many policies and procedures for our Medical Group and served as the primary liason between our group and the Hospital.

We ran all of the Code Blues in the hospital and were responsible for all of the associated procedures such as Intubation, Central lines, Arterial lines, etc.
