As an Information Literacy Specialist I believe that the library is an integral part of the educational program. My goal is to assist teachers and students in being successful by providing them materials, tools, and skills that they need. IB is a tool that when integrated into the curriculum will enhance opportunities for students to develop the knowledge, attitude and skills they will need to be successful adults. I am passionate that a student who enjoys reading will become fluent in reading and a student who is fluent in reading will become a lifelong learner.
As Information Literacy Specialist I incorporate a variety of teaching methods, which include discussions and demonstrations and activities to foster an engaging learning environment. As well as planning and conducting activities to provide students with opportunities for inquiry, the library provides an extensive collection of fiction and nonfiction books to enhance student's literacy skills.
As a 5th or 6th grade Science teacher, respectively, I provided hands-on activities as well as lecture and class discussion to introduce skills and concepts. My classes included ESL students and special education students. I worked cooperatively with special education and ESL teachers to modify the curriculum for students according to their IEPs.
At Raymond Elementary, I taught 3rd grade and then 4th grade self-contained. My classes included ESL and Basic level students.
