Identify, reach out to homeless veterans in city parks, on the street, in shelters, and at transition treatment homes and facilities. I provide counseling and guidance in helping with housing, employment, health-care, medication needs, and referrals to various community resources. I maintain a part-time office at the VA Hospital in order to accommodate in-patient veterans seeking treatment.
Established and organized a satellite office for the Portland regional VA office. Maintained a caseload of 125 to 280 disabled veteran's who were seeking training and employment services post military and combat service. I performed extensive testing to determine their psychological and physical functioning abilities as well as their projected success in an academic/training program. I established positive relationships with all colleges and schools in the Southern Oregon area. Understanding and utilizing community resources was crucial in assisting disabled verteran's seeking help. Responsible to work independently of the regional office in Portland. Handled a large client budget that often exceeded $20,000 per year, per client. Reviewed and evaluated medical and psychiatric documents routinely.
Provided counseling to disabled Oregonians providing intake, evaluation and professional guidance in returning to work. Assignments included working at local high schools with students ready to transition out of school and into work. I also provided serves/case management to a general population of disabled from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. I worked closely with non-profits and fellow state agencies in advocating and assuring the best possible services and help available. I practiced strict confidentiality and client boundaries.
